AIBU?

Beef for Xmas day?

Fruitbatdancer · 22/12/2019 22:09

We always have beef for Xmas lunch. GranDad was a poultry and pig farmer, by time Xmas cake around he couldn’t bare sight of turkey/ capon/ chicken and pork. And had ‘swapped’ with several beef farmers. So had a fridge/ freezer if beef!
Having talked about it at work I was surprised how many people also don’t do turkey/ chicken.
So yanbu = we have something different too
YABU = get out of town you freak turkey all the way

Final drip feed- our beef comes with horseradish, Yorkshire pudding, pugs in blankets and sage and onion stuffing 😊

We normally have baked fish, prawns or calamari but not like the American 7 fishes.

It’s more of a light meal because the next day is so much food!

Yes we are having rib of beef (there's pigs in blankets too) as we have turkey for Thanksgiving so i don't want to make it again for Christmas. We still have parsnips, sprouts etc and traditional Christmas desserts.

I've done beef for Christmas dinner for 20 years. I don't like turkey.

I always do plenty of veg and make a leftover pie on Boxing Day (bung it all in a casserole dish and put a suet pastry lid on it. Save a bit of gravy from the previous day and it is delicious.

We are having rib of beef as it is just DH and I Xmas Day, and we like it really rare.
When we host, which is most years, it is turkey as we refuse to cremate good beef.

There will be pigs, stuffing and Yorkshires though.

We are having Beef Wellington this year, other years we have had pheasant, pork or goose.
One year we had Chinese.
It is a day to have whatever you fancy and so we do.

Turkey is shite. I'd rather have a smart price chicken.

Goose and Gammon all the way!

I love the sound of all of your alternatives. And don’t get me wrong - 364 days of the year I would prefer them. But for me it not Christmas if you don’t have turkey.

We have fillet steak, with jacket spuds, corn on the cob, mushrooms, peas, coleslaw.

I cook a roast most weeks, neither of us particularly likes Turkey.

We have a whole beef fillet on order from the butcher for collection tomorrow and will portion it up for the freezer.

Sounds nice. I don't think beef and turkey go together, though.
I like pheasant!

I don't think anyone is U whatever they eat on Christmas Day.

One year I did a big lasagne and garlic bread as we'd already had 2 Christmas roasts by that point and it's my husbands favourite.

Another year we had curry.

My 6 year old loves roasts though so the last couple of years we've gone traditional. Will do Wednesday too as the rest of our Christmas get togethers are buffet style this year so will the only turkey and stuffing chance.

Generally we do beef as a Sunday roast anyway so the turkey feels like Christmas here.

Turkey/lamb and some kind of ‘fake thing’ for DD who is vegetarian. Mounds of Yorkshire pudding too (which will upset the ‘Yorkshire’s only go with beef’ purists no end 😂🤷‍♀️).

We have rib of beef, cooked for 22 hours at 50°c.
Comes out beautifully rare with gorgeous almost jerky like slices on the outer faces
