DS rash (photo)

This isn't really the place, but I need advice. I've already been to the GP twice this week, so that's why I'm posting here first.

It's been a long week. On Saturday DS was suddenly unwell & had a fever, we went to GP and we were told it's a virus that will clear up in 48 hours. We went back to the GP on Thursday as DS was still poorly with a high temperature. Saw a different doctor, who also said it was a virus but could last 10-14 days. (Shock)

Since yesterday DS fever is gone & he's mostly himself again. However, today he's developed this rash. It seems to be itchy, it started on his stomach but it has spread all over his back & chest. Does anybody recognise it? It fades under a glass.

It could be the Roseola virus, very high temperature, and rash comes after?

ChipInTheSugar · 22/12/2019 20:42

Scarlet fever?

Is it rough to touch? Looks like Scarlett fever to me

Ellathechristmasfairy · 22/12/2019 20:45

My son had a rash very similar and I was told by the gp it’s post viral rash, it followed a short illness of high temp and lethargy. It disappeared within 24 hours.

Queenie8 · 22/12/2019 20:45

Does the rash feel rough if you run your hand over it? Does dc have a sore throat? If so, then I'd say scarlet fever.

AlpacaGoodnight · 22/12/2019 20:47

Both my daughters usually get a rash at the tail end of the virus. If you are happy he is ok just keep a close eye and it should go within 48 hours. If you are worried or any other symptoms trust your instinct and seek further medical help

herecomestreble · 22/12/2019 20:48

Looks like a viral rash.

MrsPMT · 22/12/2019 20:53

Looks like scarlet fever to me too. DS had this at about age 4, and very high temperatures. If it's that, be very careful with any scratches/sores, can catch nasty strep skin infection. So antibacterial cream on any scratches (on child or yourself).

I think his symptoms match roseola, or just a post viral rash. It's not rough to touch, but I'm worrying myself because apparently there's been an outbreak of scarlet fever in our area.

He's sleeping now, he hasn't had a temperature & seems fine but I'll definitely keep a close eye. Thank you all! Thanks

That does look quite like a Scarlet Fever rash to me.

What is his tongue like? Has he had a sore throat?

We have SF for the 2nd time here. Neither time has the rash been really bad. Or the symptoms particularly bad. Hes never even had the sore throat.

Slight rash and slight strawberry tongue.

If hes still not quite right I would get back to Drs. Whilst it's not particularly dangerous, its best treated with antibiotics.

We're on a 10 day course here. He probably would have been fine without them but best to be safe.

Notthissh1tagain · 27/12/2019 00:55

Ps 1st time had it he got sent home from nursery. We were told it was either Scarlet Fever or Slapped Cheek. GP diagnosed scarlet fever. There do look similar

RaspberryBubblegum · 27/12/2019 01:02

Scarlet fever if his tongue is swollen or slapped cheek if it's not. My DD recently had slapped cheek. Fever lasting 5 days then a rash on body and bright pink cheeks, althout NHS says not all children get the pink cheeks. Hope he feels better soon Flowers

Thank you all. Just a quick update, DS rash was gone by Monday evening & he's been absolutely fine since! So guess it was either roseola/viral rash or something similar.
