Fucking noro at xmas

DD9 has complained felt unwell all day. Been out for tea with DH and other DC X3, walked through the door and she vomited in the bucket I left in her room Earlier.

I am supposed to be hosting Xmas, have family arriving tomorrow and Xmas Eve. All food ordered, plans made, house cleaned and ready to go.

What the hell do I do? No one is going to be able to rustle up new plans at the last minute. I can delay DM coming until Xmas Eve but I can't cancel everything!

Last time DH had noro I isolated him for 48hrs, maintained excellent barrier nursing (am nurse) and no one else got it.

Would you cancel xmas? Any other event and I would cancel no worries at all but I actually don't know what is for the best. DD is currently isolated in her room and under strict instructions to stay put apart from going to the loo. We have other bathrooms so this can be worked around too.

Wwyd?

Your poor daughter! Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Oh goodness that's dreadful. I hope she's starting to get better now.

DisappearingGirl · 04/01/2020 07:59

That's terrible, hope she's better soon Flowers

Ugh I'm so sorry. I had appendicitis when DS1 was 4 weeks old also around Christmas, they thought I had noro and then they thought a residual infection from childbirth, a sponge left in after the section, etc. Took them much longer than usual to diagnose appendicitis and by that time it had burst. I know they go on what's most likely and there was a particular bad strain of noro going around at the time so it took a while for them to start thinking it was maybe something else other than noro, reasonable in the circumstances I guess.

Many many Thanks and best wishes for your DD's recovery.

So sorry to hear this. Please don't be too hard on yourself, you're only human and humans overlook things sometimes. Just awful luck that this happened at Christmas when you would have been stressed out with everything else you had going on.

I hope your daughter gets better soon.

Oh this happened to my dd. Complaining of stomach ache and a couple of vomits on the friday night, lethargic all weekend but I just assumed it was post bug weakness. Still no better by the monday morning so called nhs111 who said get her to A&E to rule everything out... queue frantic dash from a&e to ultrasound and straight up to surgical unit for emergency theatre prep for ruptured appendix. It was horrendous, they couldnt do keyhole so she has a massive scar and had to have 3 weeks off school when she had only started her new school the week before. I felt like the worst mother in the world for having not known sooner that she was not just getting over a bug. My sympathies OP, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Lurpak My DS had his appendix out two years ago & had the bowel issue (ileus I think they called it) afterwards too. It was a horrific time. Have they put her on complete nil by mouth? It took about 5 days for his bowel to start to work again & being an already skinny child it felt like he was vanishing in front of us. The doctors were starting to make noises about specialist feeding when it started to recover.
I’m so sorry for your daughter & you. I know how I went from thinking ‘okay, appendix. He’ll be okay soon’ to ‘what the hell is going on & he’s getting worse!’. Truly horrible time.
Sending you all very best wishes.

What a horrible time. I know you said you are a nurse, don't be beating yourself up thinking you should have realised earlier. Being a HCP doesn't make you infallible on all health matters. Hope she gets better soon.
