To think pre-ordered Xmas collections won't be substituted

Genuinely interested - I always knew the delivery services from supermarkets were just slots near Xmas and picked on the day so no guarantee of the products being delivered.

This year though I did two Christmas collect (different stores) ore -order things and both times was made aware on collection of substitutes.

Genuinely thought it was a way to guarantee the stuff you wanted

I use ocado all year and I am annoyed that yesterday’s order had 6 substitutions; things that had been ordered in October! And my local Sainsburys is hellish, packed and shelves empty. I can understand things being substituted if they are recent additions but not long longed items. And I suspect that suppliers will have told them more then the day before of any issues. Not enough time for me to go out to find replacements.

Support your local butcher and order any meat from there. They will actually allocate one specifically for you so no rushing about last minute.

PrettyPurse · 24/12/2019 10:07

Tesco arrived last night. One substitution....ibuprofen. Think l can cope with that.

I didn't order any joints of meat though as we have a chocolate buffet Christmas day and go Toby carvery Boxing day.

Picked up all meat stuff from my butcher who had a bag literally with my name on it. Sainsbury's delivered yesterday, just four subs, two I kept and two I returned. Local Morrisons at 9:30 this morning to get fresh bread and I was done within minutes. Tried M&S at around 11 and it was absolute Hell. They reduce everything early on and I forgot they do that. I only wanted some cheese.

I have done our big Xmas shop with Ocado and M&S Xmas food collect. Ocado delivered everything yesterday and no problems with my M&S order.

I think Ocado wised up to the putting lots of one item in the trolley to reserve the slot. Last year I put a lot of gin in to reserve the slot and they emailed me closer to Xmas to ask if that was correct. Also, lots of stuff went out of stock the week or so before. This year I was a bit more organised!

My Ocado order was delivered yesterday - no substitutes. Used them the last few years with no delays and no subs.

I stopped using Waitrose a few years back as there were too many subs and often delivery was very late or didn't happen, meaning we had to go to the shop to pick it up.

OMGafourth · 24/12/2019 13:53

If it's ordered in specially there shouldn't be any substitutions but unfortunately sometimes things don't come into branch when they should. It's a pain in the arse but unavoidable.

I think we'll head to Booths on the 27th or so to see about reduced cheese.

NaughtyLittleElf · 24/12/2019 16:21

Ocado lost one of my totes (boxes) luckily there was nothing in it I couldn't replace at the local COOP except mixed nuts, so the nutcrackers won't get a workout till new year. A £15 apology voucher code has been provided.

SunshineCake · 24/12/2019 20:30

@Barbeasty please can you spare a sprout for me ? I bought two today, paid 4p for them both and dh lost one between the shop and homeHmm. Luckily I hadn't told my guinea pig I'd bought him two Sad.

Just opened my turkey crown from Sainsburys, ordered a 1-1.49kg serves 3-6 (3-6 what exactly?!) and wasn't too fussed when they sent one that weighed bang on 1kg...except it has a BLOODY LEG ATTACHED TO IT! Good job there's only two of us...there'll be no turkey curry tomorrow! Photos of offending leg and packaging have been sent and extra potatoes are roasting Xmas Hmm

drspouse · 25/12/2019 15:20

Turkey crowns are supposed to have legs. Were you thinking of a turkey breast joint?

AhoyMrBeaver · 25/12/2019 15:43

No, crowns are whole turkeys with the legs and wings removed. It's the breasts on the bone, essentially.

drspouse · 25/12/2019 17:44

I've had them with legs before.
