To be worried about muscle twitches?

The muscles in my left thigh and left arm visibly twitch. This has been happening on and off for about a month. This weekend it seems worse. So far I’ve put it down to stress but now I’m just getting one big pulsing feeling at a time rather than little twitches I’m more concerned.

AIBU to be spending what should be nice Christmassy time off with my children worrying I have a brain tumour?

I’m going through a really bad period of stress and anxiety and my body twitches and jerks all over, more so when sitting and in bed eg when still and relaxed. I also have tingling in hands and foot, all of which have led me to worry I have something like MS (along with some other linkable symptoms) the mind is an awful thing sometimes xx

CaptainButtock · 02/05/2020 11:16

How old are you op? I'm 46 and having the same thing.
Convinced it's another charming menopause symptom Sad

Gtugccbjb · 02/05/2020 11:18

Mine also came on after period of intense stress. Ironically the stress was worrying about my son doing same thing in his sleep- myoclonic jerking.

I also find that electrolyte tablets help but then I get scared and worry I’m doing the wrong thing etc. Etc. Etc......

Misscbu17 · 02/05/2020 11:40

My little girl does this too x

Took my Son to hospital one night as got so bad . They weren’t much help.
Possible things I’ve investigated so far. Salicylate allergy. I’m sure he / we’ve got one.
Although vitamin D/ k/ magnesium seems to help but again I’m afraid I’ll do more harm. Also electrolytes seem to work but again ... scared. I too am so scared it’s neurological/ ms etc.
Mines been going on about a year. I get myoclonus jerks too although I’m almost certain they are linked to salicylates. My blood feels like it’s surging sometimes and I and my son get an exaggerated pulse in my neck. It’s definitely worse when I’m anxious and worse when I’m at rest. Sometimes I feel like my throat is swollen/ restricted.
My twitches are mainly in my back, arms legs and fingers. The pulsing feeling is my back bum and legs.
God I could go on, but I’ll leave it there to see if we can pull together some more links.

Gtugccbjb · 02/05/2020 11:51

Feel certain it’s linked to a deficiency or overload of one of the following.
Potassium, sodium, calcium group
Salicylates
Or vitamin d,magnesium.

Although I’m constantly searching the internet and changing my mind.

Gtugccbjb · 02/05/2020 11:53

When it came on it was accompanied by the worst acid reflux I’ve ever experienced (although had most of my life) I’ve only just got that under control with the massive water consumption and sleeping in my left.

Gtugccbjb · 02/05/2020 11:56

I tried so hard to get them to vitamin check my son but the bastards would only do vitamin d. Totally fucked me off. They were adamant it wasn’t needed. Looked into going private but it was about £400 for the full vitamin test.

iklboo · 02/05/2020 12:03

I get twitches when I'm dehydrated.

Misscbu17 · 02/05/2020 12:05

Does it happen to your son all night? Mine is only when my little girl is in the first stages of sleep as she fidgets too. It could be a build up of energy, is he very energetic?

I give my little girl some fantastic vitamins as she’s not a great eater - www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00553PALQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

If you’re really worried about your son, keep pushing!

The exaggerated pulse in the neck will be anxiety for you and they are visible in children, I can see my little girls in each side of her neck when she’s sleeping!

Thriva do great tests that will test you for deficiencies, thyroid, diabetes etc etc and apparently can show a bit more than a dr blood test would. I’d recommend doing this - I’ve sent off for one :-) xx

Gtugccbjb · 02/05/2020 15:45

Yes just in first stages. But if he stirs he does them for a cpl of seconds after too.

I’ll look into that, thank you x

Gtugccbjb · 02/05/2020 15:51

At one point though they were terrible and accompanied by some kind of night terrors. He was stirring constantly and I could literally see his back rippling with muscle spasms. I thought it was epilepsy and all sorts of things. My nephew does it but not as bad and my friends child sometimes too. I was so stressed at the time, literally broken and then my own health problems kicked off. Ironically the same as his 🙄 Yes he’s very active, very sweet, good boy. Gets quite high flight or flight in things such a school plays etc. (like me as a kid) but generally laid back.
This whole thing has given me terrible health anxiety! I used to be very laid back about Illness etc. I swing between thinking it’s psychological and thinking it’s vitamin deficiency.

Gtugccbjb · 02/05/2020 15:52

I asked all my friends if their kids necks did that and they all said no.

Gtugccbjb · 02/05/2020 15:54

I’m like the woman above who thinks she’s going to have a seizure or in my case I’ve convinced myself it will be a stroke 😳 I’ve read so much shit on the internet, it’s done my brain in.

Misscbu17 · 02/05/2020 16:45

I think them twitchy etc is perfectly normal as their brains are so active during the day. My little girl woke up the other night wide eyed in a start, freaked me out but I’m sure it was just a nightmare. Could noise be keeping him half awake eg shifting around or making him flinch?

I’ve only noticed my little girls pulse in her neck when her head is tilted to the side at nighttime.

I think google can trick your brain into so many things and actually produce symptoms. I suffer bad anxiety and I can focus on something and then it manifests into something else, especially you then google! I currently am certain I have Ms or something because all the symptoms I am experiencing pin point to something awfully neurological but my sensible side says it’s probably anxiety or things that have always been there! Please try to take a step back. If your son is happy, healthy, bright and full of energy then he is fine I’m
Sure xxx
