So this is gross, sorry.

I've had what I assumed to be painless piles for almost 10 years now. Its rare that there isn't some blood when I wipe. But there isn't ever any dark blood, always bright red. It's always been painless and non itchy. It does sometimes kick up a notch with no rhyme or reason but never enough to see it in the toilet iyswim.

I've used every over the counter thing going and had just grown used to it as it doesn't bother me much then saw some article about not ignoring rectal bleeding etc and felt guilty I've not been to check it out when I know you're meant to.

Can you have harmless internal piles for years? Do I need to embarrass myself at the gp just to be told its piles and there's nothing else I can try anyway? I hate this kinda thing Confused Thanks.

For context, I have a history of sexual trauma and I hate examinations or internals. It's a biggy for me.

You can have anal skin tags and they can turn cancerous. Sometimes.
I don't know how likely it is, I just know that it can happen.

Are you really sure that it's piles?

Alexandra80 · 22/12/2019 16:39

I can't feel anything myself, tmi, sorry. It must be low down the digestive tract because its always bright red. And it's always been painless. I suppose it could be.

But you can have harmless internal piles for years yes. I'm not sure how common it is for them to bleed on a daily basis though.

And you absolutely need to see your GP.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 22/12/2019 16:41

The thing that everyone fears is obviously bowel cancer.
And you can get this low down or high up in your tract.

Or anywhere, let's be honest.

The fact is you need to see your GP to establish what it is, to make sure it's not that.

roseunicorn45 · 22/12/2019 16:41

Go. Could be nothing, could be something. I had rectal bleeding and it turned out to be ulcerative colitis. I nearly died after my colon perforated. I had the entire large intestine removed and a stoma bag for 10 months before having another major surgery to connect me small bowel - rectum to allow me go to the toilet ‘normally’ again.

Alexandra80 · 22/12/2019 16:41

I'll book in after Christmas. I presumed my age made it unlikey to be anything sinister (29) and the fact they're painless but that article scared me.

Thanks for the reply.

Oh and I was 19 when it happened, 20 when I had the second op.

Alexandra80 · 22/12/2019 16:43

rose sorry to hear that. Glad surgery helped you.

I had this once, no examination by gp, was prescribed or recommended to by anusol or some other hemorrhoid cream over the counter, cleared it up.

Alexandra80 · 22/12/2019 16:47

I've used every cream and suppository going. No luck yet. I'm glad it helped you though.

Go to the GP just in case, one of DS's friends lost their Dad to bowel cancer, he was only in his 40s. The likelihood is that it won't be it but it's far better to know that than guess.

Alexandra80 · 22/12/2019 16:52

It'd be nice if they could actually do something to stop it happening. It doesn't have much impact but it's gross Xmas Blush

I've a history of sexual abuse too, it stopped me getting a smear for 15 years. I had a medical condition that was intimate, on the advice of a group I follow with the same condition, I went to the GP with a pre-written note explaining how difficult it was for me. Might be something to consider, it's a lot easier to write something down than to explain in person Flowers

Stressedout10 · 22/12/2019 17:04

It sounds more like anal fissures than piles if they bleed daily for years, you should really get them checked out

Stressedout10 · 22/12/2019 17:07

Ps if it is anal fissures they can treat them though in extreme cases it can involve minor day surgery

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 22/12/2019 17:16

Surely anal fissure would hurt?

Interestedwoman · 22/12/2019 17:16

So sorry you've suffered trauma and find such things extra hard. Flowers

I think you should get it checked out. They might even be able to give you something that helps. Well done for considering it, and have a nice xmas. xx

FruitcakeOfHate · 22/12/2019 17:16

No, I wouldn't bother. I have the same and have done for well over 10 years. If it were going to kill me it would have done so by now. Mine are definitely piles.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 22/12/2019 17:19

@FruitcakeofHate the problem is, if it's piles and then something else a few years later how would you know?
You would be constantly blaming the piles.

Dartsplayer · 22/12/2019 17:22

Please go. One of my closest friends died this year of bowel cancer age 44. Just because you're young doesn't make you immune (sorry don't mean to scare you). Hopefully the doctor will be able to treat you for whatever it is but if the over the counter stuff isn't working you really need to see you're GP. Good luck OP

FruitcakeOfHate · 22/12/2019 17:25

Because it's been the same for 15 years and not changed, Dont. I don't see the point in running to the GP about everything (they don't do FA half the time anyhow). Mine are grade IV so creams won't help.

Bimlass · 22/12/2019 17:25

Do you have any pain sitting down for a long time or on certain types of chairs. Like those moulded plastic chairs? Is it painful to go to the loo?
If it is reading some of your comment you could have bent your coccyx. If this is the case they can do an x-ray to check just talk to your gp. It can be fixed but you are under sadation so you don't need to worry about being touched in that area.
I have had this problem didn't quite get the bright red blood either but the painful passing and sitting hot me down and worried. Hope this gives you maybe another thought on what could be wrong but tbh I'd get you checked out.

Dodie66 · 22/12/2019 17:32

Please go to the GP. My daughters friend died of bowel cancer and she was in her 30s. She had bleeding and they thought it was chrones disease. Get it checked

CFlemingSmith · 22/12/2019 17:33

if it’s something you could afford, go to a private gp, as maybe seeing a picture/reading about them/selecting who you want to see you will make you feel more comfortable?
