hi - i am a regular but have namechanged as my mum stalks me on mn! she's a bit of a control freak, doesn't really understand the meaning of privacy and really objects to the number of piercings and tattoos i have. now she's started in on me dyeing my hair, which i stopped while i was pg. she says it makes me a bad mother (wtf??) and that ds will be mocked in school for the way i look (he's 7months, so to say she's looking ahead is an understatement!!)

whatever your views on tattoos/piercings are, and i appreciate they're not everyone's cup of tea, AIBU to think it's no-one's business but my own how i look? and am i damaging ds by the way i look? stupid i know, but pfb and all...

This is an old thread to resurrect! Any particular reason you revived it PT?

YANBU - on the offchance that the OP is reading this!

At the risk of offending (but I'll say it anyway), you do sound as though you are being a bit childish about it.

It's certainly true that you can look how you like, but, if you want to look 'unusual', then life dictates that people will notice. If that's not what you want, then, well, you know the answer.

When your DS is all grown up and dyeing his hair sky blue you'll realise that although he might be all grown up - he's still your child and you care about him. Which is where your mum is at right now I should think.....

So, smile sweetly, remember that she's probably forgotten one or two things about how she used to look/dress, and accept that she's always going to feel like a parent - however old you are.
