To cook incorrectly stored pigs in blankets?

Saltdoughmuncher · 22/12/2019 10:05

My DH when putting away the food shop on Thursday evening accidentally put the frozen pigs in blankets in the fridge. We were going to use them today but the instructions say to cook from frozen. Can I still cook and use them? They have been stored in the fridge since Thursday evening.

I say yes they will be fine, DH is convinced they need throwing away.

They will be fine.

AltheaVestr1t · 22/12/2019 10:07

Yea, they will be fine, they’ve just defrosted.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 22/12/2019 10:07

I'd throw - pork will give you awful food poisoning.

Chemenger · 22/12/2019 10:07

They will be fine.

ragged · 22/12/2019 10:11

They'd be fine, just cook 'em.

LakieLady · 22/12/2019 10:12

I'd cook them and eat them, but then I have a cast-iron gut. I've only ever had 2 upset stomachs in all my 64 years.

Seeline · 22/12/2019 10:14

I'd throw - use within 24hours once defrosted.

LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 22/12/2019 10:28

I’d use them. And I’m quite fussy. They might be a bit soggy though.

Witchofthenorth · 22/12/2019 10:30

I would cook them. You usually have 72 hours after defrost to use

superram · 22/12/2019 10:31

They will smell if they are off. You will be fine eating them.

KittenVsXmastree · 22/12/2019 10:50

If they smell ok, I'd cook them
If they still smell ok, I'd taste one.
If they tastes ok, I'd tell the kids they shouldnt be eaten, so I could scoff them all myself!

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 22/12/2019 10:53

Put frozen in the fridge on Thursday evening, they will probably have taken at least 24 hours to fully defrost (I always find frozen stuff stays frozen for ages in the fridge)!

I’m very fussy about food storage because I have a delicate stomach but I’d eat these no problem.

churchandstate · 22/12/2019 10:53

Don’t throw away perfectly good food! If it looks, feels and smells fine, it will be fine. Once you’ve cooked it at 180 degrees it’s not going to poison anybody.

IncrediblySadToo · 22/12/2019 10:56

I’m vegetarian so I wouldn’t eat them anyway, but I do eat other food that’s supposed to be cooked from frozen when it’s defrosted. It’s not always as nice, but it’s perfectly fine to eat. If I ate meat, I’d cook those thoroughly and eat them no problem and I’m cautious because I don’t think any food is worth being ill over.

Cook them, eat them, let DH choose for himself whether to eat them or not 🤷🏻‍♀️

nutellalove · 22/12/2019 11:49

It would have only fully defrosted on Friday /sat morn and it's only a day or so after that now so totally fine to eat

Petrichor11 · 22/12/2019 12:13

I wouldn’t eat them, most things say use within 24 hours of defrosting. If you’d realised and used them in that time it would be fine.

I do know that it would probably still be fine. But I’m paranoid about these things and it’s really not the time of year to risk food poisoning.

bridgetreilly · 22/12/2019 12:19

Definitely fine. Cook them really well. Yum.

user1493413286 · 22/12/2019 12:20

I would throw them as they’ve been defrosted a while and I wouldn’t want to risk being ill over Christmas

hazell42 · 22/12/2019 12:32

Depends.
I would, wouldn't even think about it.
But if you are the sort of person (and I suspect you are) that would worry about food poisoning from the first swallow, chuck them in the bin and buy new ones.
It is so easy to convince yourself you are sick, and then you will ruin Christmas for you and your family

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 22/12/2019 12:36

I wouldn't risk it this close to Christmas.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/12/2019 12:43

I realise this is controversial but I would put them back in the freezer and then cook as instructed and they would almost certainly be fine. In my mind this is better than them being out of the freezer for nearly a week.

I know you're not supposed to do it but I defrost and refreeze meat quite often and never had a problem.

CherryCheezcake · 22/12/2019 12:51

If they've been kept in the fridge, they'll be fine. Keep an eye on the cooking time as they might need a little less time cooked from chilled rather than frozen

Spitsandspots · 22/12/2019 12:53

This says 1-2 days so no, I wouldn’t risk it now.

How long do raw sausages last after being frozen and thawed? Sausages that have been defrosted in the fridge can be kept for an additional 1 to 2 days in the refrigerator before cooking

halcyondays · 22/12/2019 12:56

Bin it, it’s not worth the risk.

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 22/12/2019 13:24

I would put them back in the freezer

After they've been thawing since Thursday evening??
