AIBU to have a bit of a moan about new house?

We recently moved into our first house - knew it needed a bit of work, but we’ve just had one of those weeks where every job we have looked into doing has become bigger or more complicated.
Plus we’ve discovered the conservatory doors are leaking and this morning there was water dripping in from above the spare bedroom window (looks like it’s the window frame rather than the roof, hopefully).
It’s not a big deal in the grand scheme of things and we are very lucky to have the house, and I know this is the way it goes when you’re homeowners sometimes but I just wanted to have a little waaaaaaahhhhh as it’s right on top of Christmas, I’m nearly due our first baby and we have guests over who will be staying in that room
from Monday.

Feel a bit better now. Grin

I think that when you move into your first house, the excitement of it and the dreams you have for it, overtake you, then reality hits.

Not massive stuff, but annoying when you want it to be perfect. It is common for a small job to turn into something bigger though. I’m assuming you had a survey?

Also, you’re heavily pregnant, so things are difficult and you want to show of your new home.

Good luck with it all and with the baby!

I think we’ve all been there - and you have more on your plate than most!

On the bright side the weather looks like it’s improving and you might be able to bung a bit of sealant in as a literal stopgap?

Thank you both, you’re right! We had a survey so
We knew a lot of the bigger things (like the windows, which are getting done in January) and it IS brightening up and wasn’t a massive leak.

I got woken up by a barking dog at 3am as well so I’m not in the best of moods anyway!

It feels very cluttered and dusty today so I’m going to have a bit of a clear and a clean and hope that makes me feel a bit better

If it's any consolation, I've had this every time I've moved. It lasts until I start decorating, arranging furniture, throwing myself into things.

I think it's a natural "come down". After all the dopamine floods your brain with the newness and excitement, it's like you run out. Like the Tuesday after you did a weekend E.

This is one of the reasons we’ve put off buying another house. In our last house DH was beyond useless and there is only so much u can do myself/pay someone else to do myself. At least in our rental I get to do the fun easy to do diy stuff like painting walls and upping upshelves but if there are any difficult to deal with problems the landlord fixes it.

I’m feeling a bit better now so thank you for the posts. I know it’s just the way it goes, but I just felt a bit overwhelmed this morning.

We’ve only been in a month but we’ve already got it quite set up and homely and have plans for painting between Christmas and new year, the windows booked for January, so I should focus on the good rather than the bad!
