To think my dog is dying?

4 year old Frenchie. Closed his right eye last night. Started acting odd. Staring into space, staring at the wall. Lethargic. This morning he’s worse, won’t get off the chair, sleeping ... when he does sit up he just stares, looks glazed over, not all there so to speak. His movements are slow and robotic, he’s wobbly. Keeps stretching his neck upwards ... very lethargic now. Trying to contact vet but I’m fearing the worst

My dog behaved like this and it was an ear infection.

Annabk · 21/12/2019 08:56

Do you have any scented candles/diffusers/plug-ins/ strong cleaning spray? Sounds like toxin exposure. Hope you are at the vet now.

slipperywhensparticus · 21/12/2019 08:57

Has he been out for a walk lately

Snugglemonster84 · 21/12/2019 08:59

Hes in pain with something.
My cockerpoo has a back problem and does exactly the same thing when he's in pain with it

KarmaStar · 21/12/2019 11:49

Unless there is a vet or get nurse on here, get off mumsnet and contact out of hours vet.You could try pets at home some of them have a vet in..Hope he is going to be ok and it's not serious.Flowers

Rubyupbeat · 21/12/2019 11:55

Get to an emergency asap. No good thinking about it, try every vet there is. Could be an auto immune virus, which is quick and fatal, please just go!

Catapillarsruletheworld · 21/12/2019 12:07

He could possibly have had a stoke, my elderly collie behaved a bit like this after she had her first one.

It did almost completely resolve by itself within about a week (I did get advise from the vet, but as she was so elderly and had other health conditions, it’s was agreed that we would do nothing and just see if it resolved, which it did).

She was almost 14 when it happened though, if she had been 4 I’d have been straight down the vet.

Redcherries · 21/12/2019 12:12

Hope he's ok OP and you managed to find an emergency vet.

Pardonwhat · 21/12/2019 12:13

If you think your dogs dying wtf are you doing on here?
If you can’t get hold of your vet ring another one.
I can’t believe you’re not in the car on the way already!

I clearly meant that I can’t believe that they’re posting on mumsnet and not going straight to the vet if they believe their dog to be dying. That applies whether it’s any time.

slipperywhensparticus · 21/12/2019 13:01

Yes the vets have opening hours too it's not 24/7 like the nhs and I'm assuming as she has stopped posting dog is either deceased or getting treatment

Honestly sometimes people just need to talk to stop themselves struggling in real life

Moondancer73 · 21/12/2019 13:09

Why are you posting on here and not calling the vets??!

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 21/12/2019 13:15

Oh God I hope you made it to the vets @DobieMom81 and he's getting treatment.
Although why you wouldn't get him to the vets last night if you thought he was dying (at 4 years old!) is anyone's guess Hmm

Pardonwhat · 21/12/2019 13:16

slipperywhensparticus

Every vet practice I’ve ever known has a vet on call 24/7 so you’re wrong there!

Micsam89 · 21/12/2019 13:32

Vet technician in Australia here - hopefully you've managed to get your pup to a vet to be checked out. It sounds neurological to me, which could be for a multitude of reasons and doesn't necessarily mean death. Symptoms sound a bit like a seizure (pre, during and post seizure). Being a brachycephalic breed, they can have respiratory issues, which could explain the neck stretching. Or something as simple as an ear or eye infection - a scratch on the cornea (common with the bulgey eye breeds) could explain most of those symptoms too. Let us know how you get on, hoping everything is ok.

What is with all the people who can't read?

She clearly states in her OP that she was trying to contact the vet and has not been on MN since.

She was clearly just after some support/hand holding.

Interestedwoman · 21/12/2019 13:38

Most likely just some sort of bug- get it checked out but am sure it'll be fine. xxx

DontCallMeShitley · 21/12/2019 13:41

Every vet practice I’ve ever known has a vet on call 24/7 so you’re wrong there!

That's what I thought, until one night I needed to use the OOH vet hospital, the major training one that all vets are accredited by in the UK.

I called and called and called and the phone was never answered. 24 hour emergency hospital.

OP, I hope your boy is OK.

namechangenumber2 · 21/12/2019 13:49

Ah hope he's ok ☹️

Pardonwhat · 21/12/2019 13:50

DontCallMeShitley

Gosh! That’s awful.
Even if my vets didn’t answer I’d find one who did!

PinkHairD0ntCare · 21/12/2019 13:52

That's right, pile in on someone who's worried their dog might be dying ffs

Hearthside · 21/12/2019 13:57

Op i hope he is ok and you managed to get hold of a vet Flowers

If this is the rvc in potters bar, this is bullshit.

Grumpelstilskin · 21/12/2019 14:42

Hope he is ok. Sadly, this is a breed with so many worrying health issues, so understand your panic.
