31 weeks pregnant and unsure about cooked chicken

Evening all! I am just wanting some advice quickly as I am panicking to the high heavens.. I even stopped eating my dinner and refused to eat anymore.

I had made homemade hunters chicken for DP and I.. I started with poaching 4 x chicken breasts for 30 minutes, they were on gas mark 6. I then took them out and stuffed the breasts with cheese, wrapped them in bacon and then poured the sauce on and sprinkled cheese on.

I then cooked the breasts on gas mark 6 for another 15 minutes then served it up with chips and garlic bread. When I was cutting into my breasts there were some pink bits that looked like veins and some reddish bits on the corners.

I immediately stopped eating my dinner and I didn’t eat anymore so I only ate about half of a breast but I am worried that now I’m going to get food poisoning and as I am 31 weeks pregnant, I don’t want to do anything that will possibly harm my baby.

What do you think the chances of me getting food poisoning would be? Please vote yes if it is likely I will or vote no for if I am being unreasonable.

Thank you all in advance Smile

From experience I find chicken wrapped in bacon does come out a bit pinker internally - both when I’ve had it at home and in restaurants? I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine given the cooking time you state :)

vegetablesbling · 20/12/2019 20:57

the bacon does make the chicken look pink

NoHummus · 20/12/2019 21:02

You'll be absolutely fine.

moreismore · 20/12/2019 21:02

I don’t understand your voting but there is no way that would make you ill, I’d eat the rest tbh!

Shahlalala · 20/12/2019 21:06

I don’t think it will make you ill. Like PPs have said, the bacon makes it look pink sometimes.
I did eat chicken my husband didn’t cook properly at 30ish weeks and had food poisoning, but baby and I were both fine. She’s 5 now.

Chocolateandchats · 20/12/2019 21:08

The chicken was cooked for 45 mins, that’s definitely enough for a breast. Try not to worry, you’ll be fine.

Mammabee20 · 20/12/2019 21:09

There were some pink looking veins still though inside the breast 🙁 my DP’s actually looked fine though and he ate all of his.

I think it is just the red bits inside not near the bacon which worry me.. I couldn’t bear it if I got sick and something happened to my baby like early labour or stillbirth as a result of it.

I don’t know if I am being unreasonable because in my first pregnancy with my DD, I had gallstones and wasn’t diagnosed so I worry all the time about something being wrong with either me or DS now 😔

Don't worry whenever I've cooked bacon around chicken it always makes the outer edges look pink. You'll be fine.

LaudableLaura · 20/12/2019 21:11

I agree with PPs, it'll be the bacon that's coloured the chicken, it sounds like it'd be well done with how long it was cooked for. If you were to get food poisoning (although very unlikely in this instance) it's not something that can cross the placenta so although unpleasant for you it shouldn't harm the baby. I had it at five months pregnant and DD is absolute fine.

LittleMousewithcloggson · 20/12/2019 21:13

I don’t understand the voting either but I wouldn’t worry
Wrapping the outside does tend to make it look pinker
If your oven is working properly then the time you cooked it was enough

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/12/2019 21:45

Have you got health anxiety?

RhymingRabbit3 · 20/12/2019 21:53

I think I voted the wrong way but I dont think you will be ill.
Uncooked chicken isn't really pink/red, it's just jelly like and clearer than the cooked part. Even if it was undercooked it's not a guarantee that you will get ill from it. Even if you did get food poisoning, it would be salmonella which is pretty mild and according to NHS website salmonella food poisoning is unlikely to harm your baby it's just unpleasant. It's not like listeria which can cause stillbirth.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 20/12/2019 21:55

The voting doesn’t make sense because people use AIBU for all sorts of shit that doesn’t belong here.

Mammabee20 · 20/12/2019 22:15

I thought the voting could be used for yes you are likely to get sick and no you won’t get sick. I’ve written AIBU posts before but don’t think I’ve ever used the voting so sorry if I’ve done it wrong Blush

@Fluffycloudland77- Yes a little bit of pregnancy/health anxiety... I’ve been signed off since middle of November from work and I’ve started my maternity from January because all I can concentrate on is making sure my little man is safe and healthy. I had gallstones with my first pregnancy and it wasn’t picked up.. When I was in labour my body was physically too weak to push (the midwife says) even though I had got to 10cm and I ended up having to have an EMCS which has disappointed me a lot Sad

@GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat- I don’t know if your comment is aimed at me but people are allowed to use the AIBU section for whatever they want advice on.. MY AIBU is- is it unreasonable to be worried that the chicken wasn’t cooked properly even though the cooking time was lengthy and how reasonable is it too worry I might get sick as a result or that it might cause problems for my unborn baby.

If you don’t want to give advice on the thread.. move on and don’t read it 😕

You will be fine. I cook chicken breasts for 20 mins. Don’t worry xx

SpoonBlender · 20/12/2019 23:07

They've had 45 minutes in the oven, there's absolutely no chance they'll be undercooked.

I'd suggest investing in a poky food thermometer, then you can be certain by sticking it in your chicken and reading off the actual temperature in the middle of the meat.
