Been prescribed with the above twice per day. Would it be terrible to take one 8 hours after first dose or do I need to stick strictly to 12 hours?

The horrific side effects took about 48 hours to really kick in for me. Xmas Envy

ALongHardWinter · 20/12/2019 20:03

I had these about 12 years ago for a chest infection. I had a permanently oily taste in my mouth.

Stickybeaksid · 20/12/2019 20:05

I have taken these a few times and no side effects at all.

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/12/2019 20:13

I feel bad for scaring you now.
You might be absolutely fine, hopefully you will be Xmas Smile

BringMeTea · 20/12/2019 20:16

Another one with hives everywhere from these. But we all react differently!

EerieSilence · 20/12/2019 20:18

I get horrendous nightmares when I'm taking them. Very real and scary.

BringMeTea · 20/12/2019 20:20

Oh and it came on after the first dose if that helps.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 20/12/2019 20:21

I'm allergic to penicillin so have had them a few times. I strongly suggest taking them exactly by the book, with a boatload of those probiotic drink things and never ever on an empty stomach or with alcohol. Oh and don't eat cheese. Don't know why but it always precedes a particularly explosive episode of the shits.

They're one of those antibiotics that you only get given if you really need them. They're brutal on the stomach.

Fairylea · 20/12/2019 20:21

Just for balance I have these a lot as I am allergic to penicillin and they are absolutely fine for me, no side effects at all and work miracles on the most awful of infections. (I have lots of serious autoimmune conditions and take antibiotics a lot, these are one of the only ones that I have no issues with)!

Liland · 20/12/2019 20:58

Penicillin allergy here too. Awful after taste in mouth that seems to linger forever is my only symptom :) I'm not particularly prone to thrush though, only ever had it while pregnant.

Trafalger · 20/12/2019 21:24

Recently finished these antibiotics and yea the shits, horrendous stomach cramps and horrible thrush all came my way! But it did clear up the infection.

StapleTakerOuter · 20/12/2019 21:28

@waspnest funnily enough I was prescribed these for an infection two weeks while dealing with the flu and they knocked me right over the edge and I ended up on fluids in hospital

slipperywhensparticus · 20/12/2019 21:29

Ate these the ones that turn your pee black?

AwdBovril · 20/12/2019 21:40

I'm allergic to penicillin as well & always seem to get prescribed these. Absolutely horrible nausea & abdominal cramps. I try to eat lots of food with natural probiotics in - yoghurt, sauerkraut, kimchi etc - but before I improved my diet, I'd always have the runs for several days as well.

RootBeerFloat43 · 20/12/2019 21:46

I've just finished a course of these and I didn't have any side effects whatsoever, so you may be just fine!

nocoolnamesleft · 20/12/2019 21:52

I've had it quite a few times. Definitely take probiotics to help with the gut side effects. Other than that, the only problem was the lingering taste.

QuiteGood · 21/12/2019 13:01

Tablet 3 down (day 2). Think it's high strength but twice a day. Anyway, so far, so good. Sounds like I'll know after tonight.

Redcherries · 21/12/2019 13:27

I have to take these or similar daily. I find its best to take on a empty stomach, with loads and loads of water then eat something dry about half an hour after.

QuiteGood · 22/12/2019 13:57

Day 3 mild itchy rash, now gone with an antihistamine. To those who had that, did it get progressively worse for stay the same?

Also mild toilet trubble.

Feel LOADS better though!
