To think that people aren't being jolly and nice around Christmas?

Everyone looks stressed out and I've experienced lots of rudeness, which is really spoiling the mood for me. I'm including DH who is being quite snappy, even though I am the one who is organising the kids and presents and schedules. I have a stressful job and colleagues who are usually fine are bickering. Shops assistants are looking grumpy (understandable). Parents are dragging the kids around, threatening Father Christmas not coming.
Just now I've been waved across the road by a driver, and got shouted at to hurry up. I would have been happy to cross the road of my own accord. I was walking quickly but wasn't going to be running.
Is this just a reflection of my own mood or is it a bit off this year? Lots of friends have said they don't feel Christmassy yet.
I'm looking forward to some time off but feel like the relaxing but is never going to come.
Anyone else feeling this way?

12 days for me since the same, I feel your pain. Not into Christmas at all this year :(

FruitcakeOfHate · 20/12/2019 15:59

It's one bloody day. FAR too much pressure and fuss around this one bloody day. Why on Earth are people expected to be 'jolly and nice' because it's around fucking Christmas? Plenty of people don't celebrate it, are working, etc.

MrOnionsBumperRoller · 20/12/2019 16:11

If you want the antithesis of jolly and festive visit Marks & Spencer at Handforth Dean. Holy fuckery it's a whole other level of foul.

Gingerkittykat · 20/12/2019 16:11

I'm knackered and crabbit. I've got sensory overload from flashing fucking lights everywhere, am utterly sick of Christmas music on the radio and almost every conversation being asked about my Christmas plans.

I'm managing to be polite and will have a nice chilled out family day but am sick of the build up now.

PanicAndRun · 20/12/2019 16:14

I'm off until January starting today. I'm deliriously happy atm.

'Tis the season to be jolly fallala lala la la

Picklypickles · 20/12/2019 16:18

Well I haven't been very jolly, I've had this nasty bug for about 10 days now and feeling like shit, no sleep for coughing etc! Very stressful now I'm starting to recover and have a whole bunch of stuff to catch up on that I didn't get to do last week. I haven't been rude to anyone though.

Fairyliz · 20/12/2019 16:28

Wow well Ive been to Tesco today which was heaving but very jolly. Had a chat with a woman about the cheapness of the cauliflowers (29p)and man held up the parsnip box so I could pick the best ones. Then I saw a friend when they were playing fairytale of New York which is her favourite Christmas song, so we had a little sing in the cheese isle.
Added to that I have a trolley of lovely goodies ready to eat, so that’s made me smile.
So some of us are feeling jolly, although I have sympathy for those people who feel down at this time of year.

dayslikethese1 · 20/12/2019 16:39

The drunken idiots are out as they are every year and ppl are driving even more manically than usual. Plus I'm depressed about the GE. I haven't been rude to anyone but I'm not feeling particularly "jolly" either.

Lillyhatesjaz · 20/12/2019 16:43

Over heard a mum telling her child that each time he is naughty Santa throws another of his presents into the furnace that powers his sleigh.

abstractzebra · 20/12/2019 16:44

I got an eye roll from a woman because I used the lift to go down. I saw her in the reflection!
It didn't affect her in any way and she was also using it with her husband!
I've got Achilles tendinitis so I can run up stairs all day but one false move going down stairs and I'm in agony.
I just can't work out why she was so angry about it!!!!!

abstractzebra · 20/12/2019 16:46

I should say on the positive side, lots of people have been really smiling and friendly today too!

rubywoowoo · 20/12/2019 16:50

Piss off with all your 'you all have to be jolly for the big day' shite!!!
I'm sick of having all this crap rammed down my throat.
Personally I don't see why it's all hyped up to be what it is, the environment will no doubt be in a mess after all the paper used, the plastic tat used bought & discarded etc.
Maybe people are starting to realise that it's all just a load of bullshit.

Can't wait for it all to be over.

macaroniandpizza · 20/12/2019 16:52

Feel extra unchristmassy this year as its the first without my beloved dgf and im currently in hospital after a medical termination today as there was no heartbeat found

SleighOfSparkliness · 20/12/2019 16:53

My hairdresser just gave me a hug (as well as a very good hairdo).

SleighOfSparkliness · 20/12/2019 16:56

macaroniandpizza

That’s rough, I’m sorry. Flowers

wanderings · 20/12/2019 17:03

One of my most hated phrases is “It’s Christmas!!!!” being used to shut down a disagreement.

AutumnRose1 · 20/12/2019 17:04

I'm in London

this is what Christmas has been like for about 20 years.

I look forward to 2nd January when the world seems much less stuffed with families arguing.

Petrichor11 · 20/12/2019 17:05

I work in customer service and have definitely had more angry/stressed/grumpy people than usual in the last week or two

Which just makes us stressed as well Xmas Sad

gamerchick · 20/12/2019 17:06

I encountered 4 rude people in the space of half an hour one day this week. 2 of them on the road. It's like there's few in the mood in general.

FruitcakeOfHate · 20/12/2019 17:06

I'm with you, ruby.

macaroniandpizza · 20/12/2019 17:11

@SleighOfSparkliness thank you Flowers im sad but it clearly just wasnt meant to be this time around

BarbedBloom · 20/12/2019 17:19

Everyone has been lovely here save one woman who lost her shit at a woman in Primark who had parked her pram sideways across the aisle and refused to move it. But I think a lot of people are ill, stressed and trying to cram a lot in. Town was really busy today and will be worse tomorrow

GoodDogBellaBoo · 20/12/2019 17:20

@TheLightSideOfTheMoon How sad. Star. I bet your pet had a very good life.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 20/12/2019 17:39

Most people are outwardly very smiley and chatty and happy around here. Inside, I know many of them must be feeling as I do. Mostly happy. Underneath struggling. My face (when I'm not paying attention) must show that.

First Christmas without my DM. Can't quite get my head around that one. She's my mum. Was my mum. And now she's no longer here.

Sorry. That's morbid.

LadyFlumpalot · 20/12/2019 18:25

I'm being pretty damn grumpy at the moment. However that is mostly because DH was admitted into hospital last night, is having emergency surgery and won't be coming home for a few days. This has utterly shagged all our Xmas plans and as a result I have two devastated DC and in-laws who can't accept that they now can't come and stay for the weekend.

As well as this I came on my period this morning and I have a stinking headache.

So far no one has told me to smile because it's Xmas, however I'm reserving a special snarl for when it does happen.
