Just musing this morning as I sort some last things out before Christmas, and it occurred to me how different my life is from 12 months ago. Whilst nothing I've done would be noteworthy to anyone else, I've had some small wins that I feel pretty proud of. Reading all the Christmas threads here lately, I think it's easy to get caught up in all the crazyness when really when we look back on 2019 we've got things we could and should pat ourselves on the back for.

I'll go first:

  • I've spent my first full year ever living completely alone and independently. For the first time, I am in complete control of my life. This is a massive deal for me and my MH.
  • Again for the first time ever, I spent 2019 (and half of 2018) single. I've bounced from bad relationship to bad relationship and been a serial dater, and (partially thanks to MN!) actually decided to take a time out from all of it, and get to know myself. I now actually really enjoy my own company and space (something I never thought I'd say). I've very recently started dating again, and it's amazing to realise shit that I would put up with or red flags that I would ignore. Don't settle.
  • And finally, on a more lighthearted note, this terrified-of-heights MNer flew down the world's fastest zipwire last week Grin

So what are you proud of for 2019?

Stood up for myself and stopped being such a people pleaser. It’s not been easy but my soul is so much better for it!

MoreSexPleaseImBritish · 20/12/2019 11:06

I like this post. I am all for being proud of yourself. It's one thing that really annoys me, women not being able to be proud of their accomplishments because they are supposed to stay humble.

Scream it from the rooftops lady...I'm proud of you too.

mine are

  1. finished my chartered accountancy qualification.
  2. Ran the Ragnar Relay and made new friends (170 mile relay race)
  3. swam 1 mile in lake windermere in the harshest conditions i've ever experienced.

Got a new job and had the guts to leave my old one.

FlorencesHunger · 20/12/2019 11:10

This year I got in to University, after an academic year doing an access program. I have no high school qualifications and it was a hard slog, so I am kind of proud of that.Smile

I haven't done anything else that is noteworthy. Me and my dd age 9 are closer than ever before which makes me happy as I don't remember having that kind of relationship with my mum.

Sofast · 20/12/2019 11:12

I said no to going out for a friends 30th and did something fun with my kids instead

Sounds daft but I spend so much time stressing about going to things i dont want to do in order to keep others happy. I hate "nights out" and it took a lot for me to do it but I had a way better day with my kids for half the price of what her 30th would have cost. Shes not spoken to me since though

ohwhattodowithmylife · 20/12/2019 11:14

Wow, what a lovely thread. Wonderful achievements ladies.
I am proud that I have taken control of my life.
I finally left and have stayed gone from my abusive marriage.
I tried to leave before but was so frightened of what he would do I went back.
I have had lots of court cases and ss involvement but I feel free - each day it gets better.
I'm so excited for the future.

calmama · 20/12/2019 11:18

This thread is the best thing I have read all day.

I haven't done anything else that is noteworthy. Me and my dd age 9 are closer than ever before which makes me happy as I don't remember having that kind of relationship with my mum.

You are wrong @FlorencesHunger. This is very “noteworthy” and an achievement I should have listed for myself about my relationship with my son. Smile

Hellofromtheotherside2020 · 20/12/2019 11:18

Agree, what a beautiful thread. Love seeing things like this, I get all inspired.

Mine is a sad one, but I'm so proud of it. I helped carry mum's coffin during her funeral service.

Let's all keep making ourselves proud of ourselves in 2020 Star

I went back to work and was offered a promotion within months, I couldn't/didn't want to take it for a variety of reasons, but it was a major boost to my self esteem that I am seen as capable and responsible enough to take a step up.

CtrlU · 20/12/2019 11:39

*Overcame struggles which had helped empower me.

*Completed a teaching / training course and next year I plan on launching a new business educating others.

*Survived and kept positive.

*Found a new job that suits my situation better than my previous job.

donttellmetwice · 20/12/2019 11:40

Had my first baby Crown Smile

Imtootired · 20/12/2019 11:40

I finished my degree after what seems like forever studying part time. Working and studying while I was pregnant was really exhausting but I got through it. And then having a beautiful baby boy in November. I feel so happy and my older son is such a great big brother and he got a great report from school.

NorthEndGal · 20/12/2019 11:43

Published a book, finally

tinytoast · 20/12/2019 11:46

I got a brilliant new job. Then months in was internally headhunted by the CEO and put in an even better position. I have increased my pay by 59%.

I am so so proud of myself.

calmama · 20/12/2019 11:47

NorthEndGal

@NorthEndGal I would love to read it. I know though it would take away your anonymity.

tinytoast · 20/12/2019 11:49

@calmama Woo!! Go you. Keep it up for 2020.

NorthEndGal · 20/12/2019 11:53

Thank you @calmama and @tinytoast !
It's just a short guide book to seaglass hunting, but it's something I've been too scared/anxious/uncomfortable to do before.

Backtoreality1 · 20/12/2019 11:53

Moved from one end of the country to the other

Took on the challenge of the next step up the career ladder

Both within a two month space of time when I sold a house, bought a new house, moved everything, started my new job mid-move.

Its been stressful but i have survived and its the best decision i ever made!

NorthEndGal · 20/12/2019 11:53

And congratulations to everyone here who has done something new or difficult for themselves Flowers

TravellingSpoon · 20/12/2019 11:54

Left my husband after realising he wouldnt change, and would always see me as someone who was lesser than him and worth less.
