Is it okay to miss work to say final goodbye to Aunt?

My Aunt has very bravely been battling breast cancer for several years but unfortunately I was informed last night that her time has come and now is the time to say goodbye. Is it acceptable for me to miss work for this?

First job so not sure what is acceptable

Go to your aunt.
Any decent company or boss would totally understand.
Leave a voicemail if you can and follow up with an email.

I'm so sorry you are going through this.
It's horrendous.

Of course go and of.coyrse work should be fine. (I remember asking for time off to see my grandfather in hospital and being amazed my company just gave me the time ... Of course that was the right thing to do but I didn't realise you could ask. I think my line manager arranged it for me. A good company values their employees).

Exactly what @LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett's suggested email said. Sorry to hear about your aunt, OP.

I think it is important that you show in your email that you have considered the impact if your being away. So depending on circumstances ' i have no meetings' or ' ive emailed joe bloggs and we will rearrange' or 'i appreciate this will the office short staffed and i have spoken to Ms X who will ensure everything is covered'

It's a shitty world when people have to spend time doing this at the saddest of times.

Sorry, should have said of course its ok to go. It may be inconvenient for colleagues but its swings and roundabouts and one day they will be the ones needing leave. Ive done all sorts of things not in my job role so a colleague could do something important like this
