To Absolutely HATE Door Handles

ShortStory · 19/12/2019 20:38

Violent buggers always seem to catch my hip, arm, clothes, or the bundle of laundry I'm carting to the washing machine.

DS2 (12) has dyspraxia and autism and spends most of his time ricocheting off walls, doors, door handles, and radiators.

We're making some changes to our home, including the internal doors.

What's the most gentle option? Can we get door knobs instead of handles?

Is there some miraculous alternative to door handles?

What about swing doors. No need for any handles then.

Sticking out keys are worse. I had one job where I had to walk past a sticking out key twice a day and I had a permanent bruise from it.

I've only had one incident with a lever handle. The end of the lever had a couple of sticking out bits, one of which caught in my ring as I swept my arm past. Ouch! The ring had to be repaired, and the finger was bruised for some time.

What about doors in France, which are often knob on one side (pull to open), lever on the other (push to open)? In the film Amelie, she plays a trick on somebody by swapping the handles.

As for sticking out keys... it's a good thing most houses don't have keys in doors any more. They'd often be sticking out at a child's eye level, and children would sometimes lock themselves in rooms by turning the key one way, but not being able to turn it the other.
