2DC 6 and 8.

My 6 year old was up most of last night coughing and backside they share a room it kept my 8 year old up too and they're both very tired and emotional today so I'm thinking about letting them have the day off school. We've only got 2 days left and I was wondering whether I would be U to do this?

I have anxiety so honest answers please.

I would send them in as well one it will give you a break and maybe a chance for yourself to get a nap in before they are home if you end up with another disturbed night and also around this time of year no academic work is done it's usually sit in classroom chatting to your friends watching a movie or doing arts and crafts etc I remember those days when I was in school they were the best the build up and excitement for Christmas SmileGrin

How do they feel? If they are both tired and struggling to get going then I would keep them off, have a quiet day today and see what tomorrow brings.

LemonTT · 19/12/2019 08:38

Context is everything.

If they have good or better attendance records then this is not going to be an issue in the future. If they have poor to bad attendance records there could be repercussions.

Depends on how many sick days they've had? Send them in and collect at lunchtime.
Schools don't class that as 'missing school'.
Lost count of how many times my kids insisted in going in when clearly unwell (apart from D&V) and then I get a call at lunchtime to ask to collect.
Still ended up with good attendance.

This time of year at school is so much fun that it seems mean to keep the 8 yo off because the younger one is unwell.

Chathamhouserules · 19/12/2019 09:14

I'd send them in as they'll have more fun at school with their friends. They won't be doing too much work. Unless younger one is properly poorly. Mine would perk up once they were out and about.

partyhatsoff · 19/12/2019 09:17

I throw them both in and get them an early bath and early bed tonight.
They'll be doing sod all work anyway...

GetUpAgain · 19/12/2019 09:20

I'd send them both in. A cough and a bit of tiredness is not a big deal, it's fun to be at school at the end of term!!!

ElfAndSafeKey · 19/12/2019 09:30

If they otherwise have a good attendance, keep them off.
one is ill and one is sleep deprived (and will probably catch whatever their sibling has anyway).

I would keep the 6 year old home and send the 8 year old in.

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 20/12/2019 08:20

My 12 year old is on his 3rd day off with a terrible cough that has him having to spit mucus out every 5 minutes, I can’t see how he could be any use at school so he’s having an early Xmas holiday.

His younger brother is not impressed at still being sent in but they don’t do much work at this time of year anyway as far as I can remember!
