To ask if the 48hr rule applies to an adult?

Long time lurker but first time posting.

I'm 6 months pregnant. I'm not living with my boyfriend. We were meant to see each other tonight but he messaged saying he's got a vomiting bug. On Friday we have plans so if hes ok would the 48hr rule still apply? Also is it dangerous to get the bug when 6 months pregnant?

48 hour rule applies to everyone.

ohwheniknow · 18/12/2019 20:07

Of course it still applies.

TeenPlusTwenties · 18/12/2019 20:08

I'd cancel.

We've just has this and it has taken me 5 days to feel right again, and DD2 has taken 6 days and counting.

TheClausSeason · 18/12/2019 20:08

I've only ever applied a 24 hour rule, personally. Depends on the bug, to my mind. One episode of vomiting, felt fine after? I'd go for it. Full on D and V lasting a few hours? I'd not bother.

Aragog · 18/12/2019 20:09

The 48 hour rule apples to work places rather than social events. Its up to you both, in this circumstance Id say mainly you, to decide. Obviously if you lived together you'd not be able to avoid the other person for 48 hours.

Aragog · 18/12/2019 20:10

Hopefully for the work place or school you'd stick to 48 hours!

Pardonwhat · 18/12/2019 20:11

I’m quite lax as I tend not to catch things too much but even so - you’re pregnant - why risk it?
And if it’s norovirous I’ve had it this week and it was bloody awful.

BeBraveAndBeKind · 18/12/2019 20:12

If he suspects Noro, then the NHS recommend 48 hour minimum after the last symptoms have gone as it remains contagious for long than you'd think. You definitely don't want that at 6 months pregnant.

christma5 · 18/12/2019 20:14

Of course it counts and at 6 months pregnant you don't want it as you could end up in hospital with it for dehydration.

gamerchick · 18/12/2019 20:15

No way I would risk it, pregnant or not.

TheClausSeason · 18/12/2019 20:18

Thankfully, it's never come up touches wood.

SchrodingersUnicorn · 18/12/2019 20:29

NHS advice is 48 hours for everyone, not just children. I had it when I was pregnant and became very ill and ended up in hospital for a week. The midwives also told me norovirus is notorious for inducing premature labour so I was lucky it didn't for me. It really isn't worth the risk.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 18/12/2019 20:29

I had norovirus when pregnant and it was horrendous. Narrowly avoided hospital admission for fluids. I was off sick for almost a fortnight. Really, don’t risk it.

CycleWoman · 18/12/2019 20:33

I too would wait 48hrs. Am pregnant and just had it, was off work for a week.

MrsMonkeyBear · 18/12/2019 20:38

Yup, regardless if your plans were to meet the queen for high tea, he should stick the 48 hour rule.

I got food poisoning at 34w pregnant and that was no fun at all. Vomiting with a rather large bump is about as easy as putting an octopus in a string bag.

TheClausSeason · 18/12/2019 20:47

Yup, regardless if your plans were to meet the queen for high tea, he should stick the 48 hour rule.

Especially if your plans are to meet the Queen for high tea- she's elderly, you know.

Was this post not removed earlier???

BlueCornsihPixie · 18/12/2019 20:58

Your pregnant, it's nearly Christmas.

Just don't risk it. You'll just have to rearrange. Will he even be feeling well enough on Friday if he has a commuting but today?

BlueCornsihPixie · 18/12/2019 20:59

Vommiting not commuting!

Notonthestairs · 18/12/2019 21:07

Do yourself a favour and don't risk it.

I had norovirus when 9 months pregnant- it kicked off on Christmas Day and I ended up in isolation in hospital. Not fun.
