To buy my kids something they need as their main Christmas present?

Its a very specific bed she wants I have a budget I save for Xmas but if I get all her normal teenage wants she won't get the bed for sometime and it's very much needed. I'm spending the same budget on all my other kids the are getting all their wants but that does include the "need" stuff like branded trainers etc. I just feel a bit bad I can't afford to do both but I do realise I'm lucky I can do it at all!!! How would you feel with such a sensible pressie or is it akin to getting a hoover lol?

I would definitely get the bed. She's clearly not a brat and will be super grateful for it

Ninkanink · 18/12/2019 16:39

If she loves the bed and has admired it on more than one occasion then yes, I think it would make a fabulous gift.

If you can maybe stretch to one or two more little things (nothing too fancy, perhaps a cushion for the bed and a new vase+flower, rug or lamp for her room), then she’d have a couple of presents to open too.

Get the bed!!!!
Gorgeous idea! And a lovely new pillow

Ninkanink · 18/12/2019 16:40

Or maybe a new set of bedding, or a bedspread.

GingleJangleScarecrow · 18/12/2019 16:42

What a great present. She'll love it. You are a kind Mum.

Bansku19 · 18/12/2019 16:44

Oh she really wants the bed. Get it. I was daydreaming of the hoover...

MuddlingMackem · 18/12/2019 16:45

Definitely get the bed. And let us know how you managed to hide it until Christmas morning. Grin

Get the bed!

Pjsandbaileys · 18/12/2019 16:50

I was thinking of hiding it in the garage, the washing machine and dryer are kept in there so it's somewhere a teenage child would never be 😂😂😂😂 definitely think I'm going to pay for it tomorrow, I think I'll leave her a card with a few clues to lead her to garage on Christmas morning. Changing beds over will probably be akin to the many Xmas mornings I've spent building kids toys hahaha I

It sounds like she’d really appreciate it and be really surprised so go for it! I’d get her a nice new duvet set to go with it though.

I would be gutted to get a bed for Christmas (or indeed a hoover) but you know your daughter best. How would she feel telling her friends she got a bed for Christmas when they are all showing off their new items? You definitely need to ask her. Could a bed even be delivered in t8me for Christmas now?

Ilovewillow · 18/12/2019 16:51

Just wanted to say you sounds like such a nice family! Hope she loves the bed!

han01uk · 18/12/2019 16:59

What about some lovely bedding/cushions/pjs to go with the bed to unwrap. Also functional but something a little more special than she would normally get?

Rainbowhairdontcare · 18/12/2019 17:02

I found myself in a similar situation (although with clothes) so I think I'd get her something small on top. (That's what I did :) )

PiggyInTheMiddle19 · 18/12/2019 17:06

When we moved I decorated kids rooms. And brought basics, curtains bedding etc.
The bedding ds and dad wanted was more Pricey plus they needed lamps and things.. Girls both needed money jars and some wall. Art etc.
I've got all the extra bits for Xmas like accessories.

I have a teen sis and she had new fur iture for Xmas one Yr. She was with it as she had a few fun bits off.others

Leeds2 · 18/12/2019 17:06

I would have no hesitation in getting the bed!

Aderyn19 · 18/12/2019 18:06

This is what my teen ds asked for (not a blingy one, but a specific kind which was very expensive). Have got him some new bedding and PJ's to go with it so he has something to open but at this age they like their rooms to be to their taste.
