To ask for sentimental/inexpensive gift ideas?!

Hey all!

I’m really struggling for Christmas presents for my DH this year. Due to finances we have set a budget of £75 and as the man has expensive taste this is proving to be quite difficult.

Any ideas (other than pants and socks which are obviously on the list) for inexpensive gifts and/or sentimental ones?

Thanks!

£75 is loads! Make him something. Or buy afternoon tea for 2.

charm8ed · 18/12/2019 08:40

A photo in a nice frame.

Honeybee85 · 18/12/2019 08:41

A cute photo of the family in a photoframe
Or photos printed on a mousemat, coffee mug etc.

Some lovely wine from a region that you have visited once or other food specialty that is local in a favourite holiday destination of yours (for example: macarons as a reminder of Paris, Italian sweets etc).

coconutty101 · 18/12/2019 08:41

You shouldn't struggle with a £75 budget !!
Gosh, me and OH half a £10 budget this year 🙈

Bunnybaubles · 18/12/2019 08:46

My DP bought me one of those plug in photo frames and put all our favourite time together photos on the memory card so it plays them all day. I'm really sentimental so I loved it. But it depends on your DH's taste tho, what does he like?
It's a little over £75 but I got DP a hot air balloon ride for his birthday a few years ago. And I contemplated getting him the supercar experience where he gets to drive a Ferrari etc.
Is he into football? Could you surprise him with tickets to see a game with his favourite team playing?

DrierThanANunsNasty · 18/12/2019 08:49

I know I’m gonna get flamed for £75 but I’m renowned for going a bit crazy at Christmas (when we have had the money in the past) and as I said he has expensive taste so I’m finding it difficult.
Everyone is different, please be kind!

Oh sod off. £75 is more than most budget.

SquareAsABlock · 18/12/2019 08:58

What does he like? Sports, games, old sitcoms, into DIY, reading?

SunnySomer · 18/12/2019 08:59

If he has expensive taste I’d get him a bit less of something really nice. (Quality over quantity).
So a couple of bottles of very nice wine. Or a t-shirt from whatever fancy brand of clothing he likes. That kind of thing.

DrierThanANunsNasty · 18/12/2019 08:59

@Andysbestadventure Hmm

For those that have asked:
He likes games but they’re like £50 each for his console
Motorsports
He’s recently been getting into fitness and working out with a PT
DIY stuff (his job is in a trade so he loves work stuff but that is also really expensive)

This comes in under budget, smells just like Creed Aventus, I'd say if he has expensive taste he would like this. It's a beautiful scent, then you have £10 spare to get some chocolates or something?

SquareAsABlock · 18/12/2019 09:08

What about a fitness book? Theres a bestseller on Amazon called World's Fittest Book for £10. As for games, CeX sell good quality second hand, and you could hand in unused games and DVDs (or even unused consoles) to get more money off.

PlanBea · 18/12/2019 09:13

When I was a broke student, I baked my grandma's cookie recipe for my dad at Christmas and he loved it, he hasn't had them since she had passed away. Is there a nostalgic family recipe you can get?

Theducksarenotmyfriends · 18/12/2019 09:13

Books. You would get loads for £75, I'd be over the moon if someone did that for me. Every year I ask for just books when people ask, they're only £3ish second hand, every year I get weird stuff I'll never use like a manicure set (I have zero interest in make up etc). I might have a slight hang up about this Grin

Or nice wine, fancy chocolate, a magazine subscription?

DrierThanANunsNasty · 18/12/2019 09:18

These are all fantastic, thank you so much!

Good trainers. Mine is always happy with good trainers

PiggyInTheMiddle19 · 18/12/2019 09:23

I got my dh an experience race day for around that on an offer. Think it was called car chase heroes.?

Bunnybaubles · 18/12/2019 09:37

My DS (20yo) is into his games console so we bought him a 2 hour virtual reality experience, where they are in their own big booth, with the full head set, so fully emmersed in VR and harnessed so they dont walk into walls. He said it was amazing.

They do group experiences where friends can all interact and play together, lots of games to choose from. Maybe you could do it with him if you like games too.

Or a bench and weights set if you have room for them.

Any DIY tools you know of that he needs but never got round to buying for himself?

Eminybob · 18/12/2019 09:40

For dh’s birthday I got him a leather wallet with his initials on, and inside put a metal credit card sized picture of him with the kids.
He loved it and it was altogether less than £75 from not on the high street.

FatherRabulaConundrum · 18/12/2019 09:50

Not On The High Street is great for sentimental/personalised things - last year, I got DH a keyring with little copper hoops with all our names on.

Purplequalitystreet · 18/12/2019 10:00

My budget this year was £50. DP has got:

  • a small bottle of whisky
  • the charity bake off apron (his one request. Weird!)
  • a wireless charger
  • a bird box
  • a daddysaurus keyring (It's DS's first christmas)
  • chocolate
