To be upset about health visitor

Hi, I have been a long time lurker, but this would be my first post

I've been asking my health visitor to connect me to eRedbook pretty much ever since it was released. I had a regular hv and she said that her team didn't received anything more about it than a leaflet, and that they will look into it but nothing happened. She left the team a few months ago and last week I had my first meeting with someone else from the team. I have mentioned the eRedbook again and the lady didn't even hear about it, she then asked two more colleagues and one of them said that they received a leaflet a while ago but nothing since then.
What bothers me is that this area was one of the first to have the eRedbook introduced, like the early test stage, the senior HV work as well in the hospital where it was first introduced and it was fully released in the city last year.
Even if they have access to it they just don't want it, especially the senior ladies who are not very familiar still with tehnology Blush
I have contacted the support team from eRedbook and they said that my HV shouldn't have any problem getting me connected.
I am shy and I don't think I would have the guts to tell my HV face to face that I now she is not telling me the truth, but on the other hand I would really like to get connected and be done with it. I am not sure how to aproach this without sounding rude or getting into an argument Confused

AIBU for being upset that the HV doesn't want to connected my account and possibly not wanting other mums know about the option to have the red book online

Yes, I think that's what I need to do, set reminders in my calendar about upcoming stuff to keep track and know when they are due.

Also talk to psychologist and try to make a plan that doesn't involve my son previous weight

I won't have to see the HV for a while now, so I will mention it for last time at the visit and if is still a no then just drop it, after all if they don't want to bother I can't make them.

I have a friend that lives a few streets away but belongs to a different HV team and she didn't had any problems getting her account connected, so I didn't see why would be a problem with mine, but oh well

@nightflower I’d rather have the e-version too, that way I couldn’t forget it at appointments and I’d have a chance of reading the notes. I moved house once and it took me a while to get the red book back as it accidentally got packed in storage, meanwhile I was told my son’s immunisation hadn’t been recorded and there was no way of checking he’d had it without access to the red book. Anyway he ended up having one of his jabs again just to be sure. If everything was recorded online that would be easier!

You can see what vaccinations they're supposed to have here: www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/nhs-vaccinations-and-when-to-have-them/

I wouldn't rely on GP sending them out. Surgeries are very busy.

Can the HV give you a print out of the weights if you specifically need it when getting refered?

Bluerussian · 17/12/2019 21:03

You don't need a health visitor to connect you to eRedbook:
www.eredbook.org.uk/

Give it a try but it may not be as great as you anticipate.

'I think that it bothers me so much because they lied to my face that they can't get me connected.'

I think it's daft to accuse them of 'lying!' It seems more like they just don't know much about it. It seems like you can sign up for yourself online to an extent, anyway.

You are asking for an extra service (to what they are used to working with/offering.)

I would ask the midwife as she may have more experience with it (though probably not much as it's fairly new and most people won't have asked for it.) The health visitors are probably busier than you've assumed.

I'm assuming you know this, but you have to do the signing up yourself before they can send the records. support.eredbook.org.uk/knowledgebase/article/KA-01070/en-us

My DD always been the more active one, so I would have her done first and then keep her busy while DS just patiently waiting his turn/being measured weighted. I always had my twins app one after another. I wouldn't had an extra pair of hands to write it myself in the book
I was happy to know they were doing fine, or that his weight is not something to be worried about, if I knew I would need accurate measurements for the future I would at least done a voice recording and then writing it myself down.

I do write myself now their weight, but it would had help the past weight of my son from about 2 years ago

YANBU if they’re supposed to be offering it to you.

I would love a digital one. I’m hopeless with papers everywhere and it sounds much more efficient.

Nightflower · 17/12/2019 21:13

I already made my account, filled in everything. The HV just needs to connected to NHS .

Based on every other sodding electronic system I've seen introduced in the NHS, I would bet any money that how to activate this hasn't been properly cascaded to the people at the frontline, it takes 10 times longer than doing it on paper, and staff are quitting rather than use an unusable system. And the senior managers would still be singing its praises, because they have no fucking clue.

Notodontidae · 17/12/2019 21:19

Look Op, follow the yellow brick road, e-mail the HV, or discuss that you work electronically, and in the interest of your child, you need to use a version of the e-redbook, explain that if it is available you would like to use it. Even if your shy that doesn't matter, the HV is there to help you to look after your child. Electronic versions save paper, which yor SS should be doing.

The GP always called or sent letters about my immunization appointments since they were babies. The reception lady was surprised that I didn't get reminder this time and apologised for it.
I am not sure if to call it a reminder or not, they say that x immunization is approaching and to call to make appointment if I want , although at some of the immunizations I would get a letter with appointment.
That's how my GP works. I never had to bother with it setting reminders or checking the red book for next immunization

@ nocoolnamesleft. I do rather think you've hit the nail on the head, nearly every NHS operative Iv'e spoken to constantly struggles with the IT system

Nightflower · 17/12/2019 21:26

Theoretically it should be available across UK by the end of next year.
I am aware that NHS in general is stretched and under staffed.
My HV always recorded it first on the computer, with eRedbook connected it would mean it would automatically sync and she wouldn't have to write it again, which would be easier or at least that's how I understand it should work from what I have been reading so far about it

ChristmasCroissant · 17/12/2019 21:38

Could you ask the HV for a printout of the weight records and enter them on the eRedbook system yourself, OP?

Nightflower · 17/12/2019 22:40

That's a good suggestion, I will ask for a print out.
Thank you all for your answers.
I will try have it sorted with the HV if not ask GP for print out
As for the eRB, I will wait and see, who knows maybe at some point in the future I'll have it done

Not rtft, but ime, I get sent confidential documents about DDs, which are password protected. Years later, when I want to look at them again, I can't remember the password and don't seem to be able to find the email, telling me what it is - despite keeping most papers on file.

20 years later, I still have to look at DD1's Red Book, because every time she sees a new professional, they send a form asking about all her developmental milestones. IMO, a paper Red Book is far preferable to any electronic version!
