Estrogel side effects

Hi ladies
I am 45 years old and really been feeling hot lately as well as having palpitations/anxiety. After reading lots on the internet I decided to go to a private menopause doctor as I felt it important to get it right. I was given estrogel pump and instructed to do 1 pump daily. I lasted 3 days before stopping as I literally could not function. I slept non stop. Is this a normal side effect? I thought estrogel was a miracle gel lol but I felt horrendous, tired and sick.
I wish I had listened to my NHS GP who said wait 3 months (As I just stopped the pill) and then we go from there. I have stopped the estrogel. Anyone else have expereince of estrogel?

Hi OP. I tried the estrogel for a few days, but I hated the weird rolling palpitations it gave me, so I stopped! I also felt really bloated, emotional and clumsy, with huge sore boobs. Like having severe PMT. so I gave up.

I'm just on the Mirena coil now, and taking Menopace vitamins, and also Black Cohosh, St John's Wort, and vitamin D. Touch wood, I'm feeling great!

Thanks for your reply, I felt awful and especially the money I spent seeing a private doctor 😢. I wondered if I should continue with a tiny dot of estrogel but I literally felt drugged on 1 pump. Do you think that means it’s too early for estrogen and may not need it yet ? Glad you feeling good x

Everybody's different, and while oestrogen might make some women feel great, it can have the opposite effect for others.

I had a surgicial menopause, and have oestrogel sat in the drawer, but never used it, I have managed okay without and I'm happier not having to take it.

It may be that it isn't the solution for you, but maybe a lower dose over a longer period would help if you want to try again?

I do two pumps a day and didn’t notice those side effects. I didn’t find it to be a miracle cure but did notice after a couple of months I felt generally a lot better and more like my old self. I’ve been taking it for 14 months and am going to stay in it for a few more years.

Im not on the same thing, but i was talkingbto a friend recently about our hrt and how im great on oestrogen but awful on progestogen, and she said she is completely the opposite.
A lot of these things are trial and error

My doctor told me it can take two to three months to work.
On a slightly different subject giving up caffeine has a made an enormous difference to menopausal symptoms, I mean enormous, less anxiety and less tiredness.
