Jeans are just too elastic or is it just me?

Just bought yet another pair of jeans online. Within an hour of wearing they are sliding all over the place. Got to the stage I can slide them down without undoing them. I just want a proper pair of real denim jeans that are not mega stretchy. Do they even exist? i just want some proper old fashioned denim jeans that stay in shape and hold you in not elasticy monstrosities that end up shapeless and baggy all over !

Watching with interest. Finding jeans with just a hint or no elastic is near impossible!

cupoftea84 · 17/12/2019 09:42

Agree. Had this issue for years.

Mamabear88 · 17/12/2019 09:42

I have this problem but with them going baggy and shapeless at the knees - soooo annoying! I'd suggest rather than buying online, going into a shop and trying a bunch of different ones on. Go for the ones that you can do up but feel snug. They will stretch out after a few wears and then fit nicely. Worth spending a bit extra for a decent pair that you will wear loads.

chockaholic72 · 17/12/2019 09:45

I've noticed this, especially with department store jeans like Marks and Spencer - and the problem with them (apart from sliding around and going baggy) is that they wear out really quickly. I'm going through a pair in about nine months because they are wearing out on the inner thigh and knees. I'm thinking of going back to a "proper jeans" manufacturer like Levi Strauss and seeing if they do something that will fit my Kardashian sized arse.

fatbottomgirl67 · 17/12/2019 09:48

recently found a pair of size 8 levis in the loft. Needles to say i'm no where near that size now but my daughter says they are the best jeans she's ever had. I just want something to fit that as you say doesn't wear out within a month. So depressing

I took some jeans back to Next because when I put them on they were skinny jeans that I could barely do up, and within a couple of hours they'd morphed into baggy, falling down boyfriend style jeans that needed a belt to stay up.

I went in expecting an argument, but they refunded me without question.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 17/12/2019 09:53

I want all clothes without nylon, elastane or lycra, preferably in natural fibres only. Tried lined, but it tears easily on the inside leg.

PawPawNoodle · 17/12/2019 09:54

Could you not get another pair of Levi's jeans? Lee also do non-stretch. Failing that I would suggest maybe Topshop.

It also depends on the cut of jean you are looking for. Typically skinny or especially super-skinny jeans contain elastane which is what makes them stretchy and ultimately makes them baggy. If you look for a straight cut or a "boyfriend" or "mom" jean then these are likely to be more rigid.

Butterfly98 · 17/12/2019 10:13

@fatbottomgirl67 I have the same issue with jeans! I find they fit well on the 1st wear but by the 2nd wear they're slipping and starting to get baggy! Then I'm wishing I bought a size smaller! I'm a UK size 10 but stretchy jeans start at a UK size 4 so wtf would anyone need stretch when they're a size 4?! The mind boggles! I was chatting to buyer once in a large department store about this very topic and she said from years spent in the fashion industry that very stretchy jeans were originally brought out due to the demand from 'big / large' women who wanted them with the skinny stretchy being the highest demand in sizes 16 - 18. They would likely fit a size 20 because of the extra stretch in them. Maybe it makes people feel better seeing the smaller size label on the jeans? Levi's, Tommy Hillf and Lee have the least stretch in them.

bridgetreilly · 17/12/2019 10:25

YANBU! I can't understand why anyone wants jeans which change shape and size so dramatically over the course of a few hours.

MoonGeek · 17/12/2019 11:50

I only wear rigid jeans now. Stretch jeans are useless on me. My favourites are from boden boys. I am size 8 and wear age 12 if that helps. Another rigid pair I almost liked were hush boyfriend jeans but the smallest size was too big on me so I stuck with the kids' ones. Also they are much cheaper, being for kids.

So hard to find non stretch jeans these days.

MoonlightMistletoe · 17/12/2019 11:59

Same happens to me ! I've tried all sorts I have one pair from matalan obviously are not designer but fit like a glove. I've tried Armani and blow me down I can't even get them over my hips I'm a size 8 slim legs wider hips and no bum Blushmust have an odd body.

Areyoufree · 17/12/2019 12:00

@MoonGeek That is interesting indeed! Can I ask how tall you are? And...erm...without getting too personal, whether you are at all curvy (how is that not too personal?!?). My current favourite pair of jeans are Armani juniors (boys), that I picked up in TK Maxx, so am interested in seeing whether the Boden ones are a similar fit.

MoonGeek · 17/12/2019 12:16

I am 5 foot 4 but not sure how curvy to describe myself as. They are very straight fitting. When I realised how perfect they were I bought several pairs and they have lasted well. Good luck

Sofast · 17/12/2019 12:16

I recommend Levi's. I splashed out on my first pair this year and I wont go back! I've also got a pair of "hypercurve" jeans from next which are pretty good to but my other next ones are rubbish.

SummerPavillion · 17/12/2019 12:23

My people!! Right, I'm going back to Levi's. Sadly can't buy online as I have an awkward waist/hip ratio.

ladybee28 · 17/12/2019 12:26

Yes to Levis and Lee jeans!

Jeans are NOT supposed to be 'comfy' – they're supposed to stand up on their own Grin

Bluntness100 · 17/12/2019 12:27

I find this happens with cheaper jeans.

Try tommy hilfigger, they do have a very small amount of give, but hold their shape for ever.

MoonGeek · 17/12/2019 12:41

Which Levi's do you buy? All the ones I looked at had elastase in.

Smelly50 · 17/12/2019 12:46

I read somewhere maybe gok or the chap who does clothes on GMB saying it is the % of ekastine . You don't want anything above 3% I think .

Thehagonthehillwithtinsel · 17/12/2019 12:48

The other problem is that the waist proportions are the same as the hips which is why they can be removed without undoing.
I'm living in M&S leggings, they fit up to the waist, support my new weight loss jelly belly and work with any kind of boot, until I find jeans that fit.
