Did I hang up on the police

This afternoon I took my friend to a specialist eye appointment. Instead of clogging up the waiting room I drove around the corner and parked under a shady tree (live in Aust) to make calls and send emails.

After 30 mins a woman knocks on my passenger window to ask when I would be moving. When I said I didn't know she then wanted to know what I was doing. I politely told her that it was none of her business and she then called me rude for not giving her a good answer. She went inside, returning shortly to take a photo of my car. It grated but I said and did nothing. Immediately prior to picking up my friend I hopped out and took my own photos of how and where my car was parked.

Sorry - this is going to be long!

A short time ago I receive 3 calls in 10 mins from a private number. I decided to answer the 4th.

A male introduces himself with rank and name and proceeded to ask if I had been parked outside such and such address. I replied that I had, asked what the problem was and what had I done wrong for him to phone me. Apparently I had upset an older lady and given her concern. So I said I was sorry that she was alarmed and he then told me it would be better to park elsewhere. I reminded him that I had been parked legally and minding my own business and I would like that to be passed on to the lady concerned. But was told that wasn't his job.

At that comment I concluded there was something 'off'' so asked for his ID# and station to talk face to face with him or any officer to discuss the issue.

Cue - delay and a mumbling answer. Thanked him and I hung up.

So, have I jumped to the wrong conclusion that this call wasn't bona fide? And if it isn't legit - how in the heck did he get my mobile number?

A non update really.

I visited a police station about the phone call and there is no log of my details being accessed. The officer was only mildly concerned about someone claiming to be the police contacting me that night. I asked if the lady would be questioned as the only logical explanation was that it had been instigated by her. As there is no proof, the answer was no - to which I replied that I wanted the call investigated as I knew my details had been illegally obtained by an person unkown to me.

I am still waiting to hear back from the officer I spoke with.

That is so odd.

Honestly who gets worked up about a woman openly sitting somewhere in her car in the middle of the day.

I think I would push it too. I wouldn't like the way someone had accessed my details.

Greyhound22 · 20/12/2019 04:56

Sorry I'm presuming you're a woman.

TreeTopTim · 21/12/2019 07:42

I also would push this. Someone has gotten hold of your details by means you don't know and is impersonating a police officer.

Comps83 · 21/12/2019 07:51

I’d be making it my ‘go to’ parking spot for all future visits

GoodBoyPeachGoodBoy · 21/12/2019 07:56

It's evident someone has hacked in or illegally accessed your personal details OP. I would start putting this in writing to a higher authority now rather than expecting the 'locals' to look into it.

OhWellThatsJustGreat · 21/12/2019 07:59

How very strange, I wonder who and how, did you register the officers name and rank details?

Troels · 21/12/2019 08:17

Surely they can see who has accessed your details, I worked in the NHS and if I ever accessed a patients details to look up anything, they couls see I had logged in to lokk at anything.
I'm pretty sure all Police have individual log ins that show what they have looked at.

Troels · 21/12/2019 08:18

Sorry about the spelling I'm not properly awake LOL

In reply -

Yes I am female. Obviously a trouble seeking one though. Grin

I did go to a different station rather than my local one. I presumed at a larger one there would be a better chance of speaking to an officer who could actually deal with my particular issue. There is no record of a data breach and there is a written statement as I requested an investigation.

Not holding my breath !!
