Household gas bills

Hi all! It is not really AIBU but more of what can I do?! My Fiancé and I bought our first home together last year after we found out that we were expecting our DD, it is a 4 bed with loads of great development opportunities (it is not the nicest area though so not a forever home situation) The issue I have is that it seems to be sucking energy like it is going out of fashion! I am in the house every day since I have currently been signed off work sick and I am due to go back on maternity in February.

We have a smart meter so I don’t know if it is watching that which is making me crazy but i just can’t believe that it says £1.70 used already and it’s only 7:50 in the morning Shock we end up using about £4 by the end of each day after I’ve done all the washing and heated the house for when my Fiancé and DD gets home from nursery and work. This means that a months bill is over £100 Blush

Just wondering if I am being unreasonable by thinking it is a lot or is that pretty standard over winter time?

It is a really big house, so the bill sounds ok. we are in a small 3 bed terrace, and pay about ÂŁ50 gas

3 bed detached house here and very very old cottage! With zero insulation. The energy efficiency is something like an F I think.

Can’t comment on gas as we have oil but for electricity I’m using £125 per month at the moment, which is £4.15 ish a day. I have been at home for 3 weeks solidly so that’s not helped as I’ve had the tv on and done more washing than I normally would have done.

I don’t run the tumble dryer (as it bloody broken and awaiting repair) but that’s for all the cooking, I run 3 x electric blankets every night, washing machine, dishwasher, dehumidifier to help dry the washing.

Is what it is 🤷‍♀️ I will do a comparison site in the new year and see if we can get it cheaper.

Oil is working out expensive (500 litres has lasted us 8 weeks) but I do have my heating on a lot (medical issues) and I need to keep warm.

Also have the fire running most days and evenings which is eating about ÂŁ70 worth of wood every 6 weeks. But it does heat the place well.

In our old house we 4 bed semi detached we used ÂŁ150 combined for gas and electricity in the winter.

Sounds about right, if a little on the cheap side, as it's larger than average, you have the heating on all day, and it's winter.

Have a look at this and make sure you're doing everything that's relevant.
