1p off my next shop (I must remember to insert the voucher code) AND a 1p charity donation on my behalf.

Ocado - thank you!

I think you should save it for a rainy day OP. One day you will be grateful for that penny.

pippistrelle · 15/12/2019 09:49

Ocado are off my Christmas card list as they failed to deliver 22 of the 53 items I ordered last week, and there were no suitable substitutes available for these items. Obscure items like toilet roll. Not a single one to be found anywhere. A complaint produced a shrug and a 'that happens sometimes '. I have taken my giant Christmas shop elsewhere. That'll show 'em.

AJPTaylor · 15/12/2019 09:50

It says on the voucher that they have already donated that amount to charity.
It's a no win really. Agree to price match, do so, realise that the amounts are Tiny so auto donate it to charity on the basis that most won't bother entering a 16 digit code for a penny.
There are far better targets for animosity in the world.

StCharlotte · 15/12/2019 09:50

When Sainsbury's was my local supermarket the nectar card/money off vouchers were really generous. I would pay for the "family" shop out of the joint account. Anything like clothing or cosmetics would come out of my own money. I'd put it though afterwards using the voucher I'd just been given. Saved me £££.

Iwantacookie We've lost both our cats and our dog in the last year. Waitrose vouchers are invariably for cat or dog food (Which I'd obviously bought previously).

Otherwise they're for something similar to what I've bought regularly but they're never for a brand I've ever bought so, lucky old Waitrose, they never get used.

Tanith · 15/12/2019 09:55

Oh, pennies do count.

I used to work in the finance applications area of an IT dept. We’d get complaints from customers whose charges has been rounded up, resulting in an overcharge of 1 penny.
They’d demand a refund.

DarklyDreamingDexter · 15/12/2019 09:56

Wow! Amazing!! Such generosity.

Mind you, it doesn’t surprise me. The company I worked for was briefly a supplier to Ocado. They used to place orders for ONE case of product at a time. A single case cost just £36 at retail price and it cost £60 in transport fees to deliver to them on a pallet! (A pallet normally holds 100 cases.) Put it down two a mistake at first... but no, second order came in for another single case. Apparently they like to be ‘lean’ and keep their warehouse stocks low. Funnily enough we stopped supplying them pretty quickly, as no company can afford to take a big loss on every case!

FrostythefeckinSnowman · 15/12/2019 09:57

Wow, 1p, how generous!

I’m in Ireland and we have SuperValu over here. They’re fab.
Their coupons and money off vouchers are also available via the App that you can scan your phone at the till so there’s no need to carefully sort and store the paper versions.

I’ve been sent a €10 of €50 shopping voucher every week from November leading up to Christmas. We stocked up on alcohol for Christmas one weekend when they had offers on Baileys and Whiskey as we don’t drink but have it in for visitors and parties.

adaline · 15/12/2019 10:01

“ The thing is, the margins between SUPER DUPER TEAM PLAYER and GLUM STAND AT TILL AND GRUNT pay were so small they didn’t actually make any difference in motivating people.”

It's the same everywhere. In my current job, the difference in the rate of pay between a regular sales assistant and a store supervisor used to be 6p an hour!

TheFaerieQueene · 15/12/2019 10:03

I’ve had a few of those in the past. I’ve always used them 😆

CatkinToadflax · 15/12/2019 10:11

I’m over the moon for you OP! 😄

I know you will share my joy that having recently moved to a new fixed rate mortgage I will be saving 20p per month. Bring on the crazy spending!

partyhatsoff · 15/12/2019 10:12

You lucky, lucky b'tard!

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 15/12/2019 10:13

I have had price match vouchers for 1p up to about £5 in my years of using Ocado. I spend them all!!

YouTheCat · 15/12/2019 10:15

I like Nectar points. They always put extra points on things I buy regularly anyway. I have about £80 towards the Christmas food shop.

CupOfMea · 15/12/2019 10:39

@adaline

One Xmas there was a “surprise bonus” which included a “present for everyone”.

Everyone got the same thing which was a slightly sad looking battered box of mince pies

(didn’t look like overstock they were trying to palm off, not at all.....)

One department retail support manager would try to improve the struggling margins by having “1-1” chats and trying to force us to buy weird wannabe middle class John Lewis tat that had been misordered to Waitrose like she was doing us a favour Hmm

I don’t care if it’s £0.89 down from £15 I don’t need or want a fucking plastic cactus in an imitation granite tub.

Bluerussian · 15/12/2019 10:44

I am extremely jealous of you, op. Don't spend it all at once!

EntropyRising · 15/12/2019 10:47

I suspect this is their automated price matching thing, I guess they do a charitable match during the holiday season.

WaggleWiggle · 15/12/2019 13:57

I love that you have to spend £40 and enter a very long code to get the penny off.

TildaKauskumholm · 15/12/2019 21:38

Who still gets tesco vouchers? Not had them for ages, just the club card ones.
