Any gynaecologists around?

I was recently admitted to hospital and came out a few days ago. I’m just reading my radiology results and one of them says my endometrium is thickened by 25mm. I’ve been googling this and what it means and none of this was discussed at hospital with me. Now I’m terrified I’ve got cancer or something. Please can someone explain? Thank you.

When is your next appointment?

You need to discuss the results of any tests with somebody who can see all of them (and will likely have been in a multidisciplinary meeting with experts in such specialisms as radiology to compare and discuss them as a whole) and respond to all of your questions/fears.

If you haven't received an appointment yet, contact the gynae secretary and ask for one - they won't mind you contacting them, as you are naturally worried - if you could take the First Available Appointment, that makes it easier for them to squeeze you in somewhere as well.

Thank you Mitzik. My next appointment is early in the new year. Really worried now :(

I'd ask if there's any way you could be fitted in before Christmas to save you worrying about it. I used to sort out appointments for exactly that reason - but if the consultant is away, which is possible as the private schools have just broken up, you are already getting the earliest they can give you.

Don't take what I'm saying as meaning anything, though - it's purely because it's worrying you that I'm suggesting it, not that it has to be bad news.

Step away from Dr Google! There are many other causes of endometrial hyperplasia that are much more likely than cancer. We're talking a tiny chance, just a few per cent. Are you post or peri-menopausal? Do you have PCOS? Irregular periods? Overweight? Have your hormonal levels been checked? Do you take oestrogen replacements? No one can answer your question without a biopsy but it is very unlikely.

Your GP will have your discharge summary, you could ask for telephone appointment to discuss it with them on Monday.

Thank you for your replies.

I not menopausal yet, although I do have endometriosis and fibroids. I don’t have periods, just constant heavy bleeding. I’m overweight which I guess is the obvious starting point to get healthy. Just so worried.
