Saturday Kitchen wtf?

Found this while flicking through the channels and there's a woman on there talking about some erotic story she's written and how she's turning it into a "live sex show" - lots of talk about porn, pornos, eroticism etc.

It's frigging half past ten on a Saturday morning. Wtf is going on?

OP posts:
Sparklybaublefest · 14/12/2019 13:00

Why watch it

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 14/12/2019 13:03

YANBU. It's part of the legitimisation and mainstreaming of porn etc, sex-positivity blah blah.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/12/2019 13:04

I think the podcast does quite a lot to rail against said objectification... it is pretty satirical, takes a merciless tack against the less than competent writer.

RubbishRobotFromTheDawnOfTime · 14/12/2019 13:06

We had it on and my 6 and 4 year olds were in the room. As they have no idea what porn or pornos are though they didn’t even register.

@elbeagle don't your children ask you what things are/what words mean when they hear or see something new? Presumably they weren't paying any attention to the programme. If they had been watching it, they'd have likely asked 'what's porn, mummy?'

Toofaroutallmylife · 14/12/2019 13:12

Slightly off topic but this reminds me of watching a news item with my grandma about porn shops. She tutted and said “that’s ridiculous, pawn shops don’t exist any more” (this was the early 80s). Her aunty ran a very successful pawn shop in the 1920s. I didn’t try to correct her! (I have had to concentrate very hard on spelling in this post ...)

RedRec · 14/12/2019 13:16

I thought she was great, although was a bit startled by the first mention of porn I also thought what a contrast there was between her and the sweet and demure Eleanor Tomlinson! But weirdly they look exactly the same.

TellMeWhoTheVilliansAre · 14/12/2019 13:17

Your kids were in the room, but we're they watching, or paying any attention to the programme at all? Probably not. It's not exactly television aimed at kids.

MitziK · 14/12/2019 13:30

My kids liked cooking shows and would sometimes have one on in the mornings whilst I was sleeping cleaning the kitchen and doing other housework.

I wouldn't have appreciated their hearing about porn when they were expecting to see who fucked up an omelette the most and I was happily not hearing yet another Wizards of Waverley Place episode for a change.

Waterandlemonjuice · 14/12/2019 13:37

I thought the same OP. Not ok for a Saturday morning cooking show.

Boireannachlaidir · 14/12/2019 13:40

Agree with you OP.

It's insidious and people don't realise or seem to care how much imagery is normalised now and language is changing so rapidly.

maddiemookins16mum · 14/12/2019 13:43

I stopped watching SK because of that pointless omelette challenge.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 14/12/2019 14:04

I totally agree with you OP. And I contrary to a previous pp I think your sarcastic posts are well justified.

It's totally inappropriate, and some children will be watching.

7Days · 14/12/2019 14:19

Of course not ok, but then I can only dream of being cool enough to not care about every fuckin thing being sexualised.
Can I not even watch some chefs chop an onion with the kids of a morning without being on guard for a tricky conversation.

museumum · 14/12/2019 14:35

“My dad wrote a porno” isn’t actual erotica though - it’s a cringe comedy about someone embody finding out their dad wrote an erotic book. And erotic books are not the same as porn ethically or morally. At all.

So they’re not talking about “porn” as such although they may have used the word (don’t know, didn’t watch it all). The OP is misleading (I’m very anti porn myself).

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/12/2019 15:33

Yes! One of its tag lines is "erratic, not erotic"

It's whole premise is satirical.
