To think this is too early?

Work men for our next door neighbours who are doing the roof have just knocked on at 7:40am to ask me to move my car so they can start work. AIBU to say it's too early to start loud work like roofing, nevermind knocking on to ask me to move my car outside of my own house?

It's a little early, but I would say that 8am is pretty standard so that's only 20 mins early.

Barnseyboyo · 14/12/2019 07:50

No. It’s fine on a Saturday. Normal working day for millions of people

AlwaysCheddar · 14/12/2019 07:50

God no, too early! Didn’t your neighbours give you warning?

Vulpine · 14/12/2019 07:52

Definitely too early. Normal non-working day for millions of people. Cfs

ivykaty44 · 14/12/2019 07:54

Neighbours really should have given you prior warning, rude to knock before 8am

Dizzywizz · 14/12/2019 07:55

Too early on the weekend - I thought there was a rule that said it had to be after 9 on a weekend, or even 10?

StephenQueenBooks · 14/12/2019 07:58

No warning, I only knew about them as they started the other day and the banging woke me up around 7ish. They also had a plank of wood come around and my snack my bedroom window when they were putting the scaffolding up.

Neighbour has a drive (we don't) and instead of putting the skip on it they've put it on the pavement right behind my car so want me to move the car so they're able to throw stuff in it. I've no idea why it's not on the other side! I think the knocking on part is cheekier than starting work at this hour!

How do you know any of their work will be noisy at this time?

They could just be carrying tiles up or lifting ones there.

Cornettoninja · 14/12/2019 08:01

I’m on the side of too early.

It’d be 50/50 whether I answered the door at that time on a Saturday. If dd was having one of her Generous but rare lie ins nothing but a fire would get me out of bed.

StephenQueenBooks · 14/12/2019 08:01

I'm sitting in my bed listening to the banging already. And then shouting over to on another.

I'm sure for construction work it's 8 am week days and 9 am weekends, not that happened when building work was going on next door to me.

BigBairyHollocks · 14/12/2019 08:06

Far too early.Hope you didn’t move it?!

Orchidflower1 · 14/12/2019 08:11

Yep far too early. Your neighbours should have mentioned it last night. I hope your neighbours are going to get you a lovely plant/ bottle of something/ chocolate for Christmas to sooth the upset you’ve had/ will be having. Hope they’re done soon.

RandomUsernameHere · 14/12/2019 08:11

Definitely too early to knock on your door and ask you to move your car!

CherryPlum · 14/12/2019 08:13

Way too early, especially in the depths of winter when it's pitch black and basically still night time.

Yetanotherwinter · 14/12/2019 08:17

Would you rather they left your car there and damaged it! Most workmen start around 8am which is reasonable enough.

StephenQueenBooks · 14/12/2019 10:18

I'd rather they'd put the skip on my neighbours driveway, or the otherside of her house where the neighbours don't have a car.

They're throwing stuff from the roof, missing the skip and getting it everywhere, just a nightmare really.

fedup21 · 14/12/2019 10:26

All of that would piss me off!! I wouldn’t have been awake or dressed at that time.

Why haven’t they put the skip on their own drive?
