To be so deeply irritated by people who can’t own their vote without prefacing it with ‘I held my nose and voted for...’

Yes we get it. You were conflicted.

You still cast your vote though and there’s no pile for people who ‘held their noses’ and those who didn’t.

Fuxake own your own actions.

Maybe because those on the left have a threatening and intolerant attitude to people who have different views to their own, believing them to be morally wrong, stupid, evil etc
Why on earth would anyone be open when they’d be met with the typical left abuse

ZenNudist · 13/12/2019 21:56

This was the election of the least worst option. The Labour vote dropped because no one wanted to hold their nose and vote for Corbyn.

Brexit swung it for a lot of folk. Sadly. No nose holding necessary.

Makes me sick but hey!

ChristmasSpirtsOnTheRocksPleas · 13/12/2019 21:57

To be fair I think most people who voted held their nose. I’ve never er seen an election with two such unpalatable leaders.

Bluntness100 · 13/12/2019 22:01

I think some people feel they need to justify it due to the sheer volume of vitriol coming from some.

ginghambox · 13/12/2019 22:01

Voted Leave and Tory. No holding of nasal apparatus needed.

Treaclepie19 · 13/12/2019 22:04

I didn't hold my nose and stand by my vote.
I do think there has been name calling and abuse from both sides.

VanyaHargreeves · 13/12/2019 22:08

YABU

I voted Labour even though I was conflicted about it.

My vote is my own and I don't particularly give a shit if :

Random Internet Stranger Finds It Deeply Irritating.

I don't find your vote remotely irritating. How's your English comprehension?

"I held my nose and voted for..."

is the new

"I'm not being funny, but..."

Oh shut up.

SHUT UP.

Your thread title literally says "to be so deeply irritated" by those who "held their nose"

One could say my conflict meant I "held my nose" when I voted

So you can ODFOD with your comprehension comment because it just makes you look sneery and goady and my comprehension is just fine.

ShinyGiratina · 13/12/2019 22:17

You can't win...

You HAVE to vote, think of all those Suffragettes. Women DIED so you can have a vote.
You can't spoil your vote, how utterly childish/ what a waste of time.
You can't vote for X party think of the NHS/ anti-semite/ Brexit.
You've got to pick the party that comes closest to your values even if it's not a close match.
If you don't vote you have no rights to whinge for 5 years.

At least let people who have voted through the mire of policy/ leadership on offer, own up to their dissatisfaction in a political wilderness devoid of centre ground.

Surely it's better to be wide eyed and open to the motivations that have lead to an outcome at the polls. Large swathes of the electorate haven't voted out of enthusiasm but out of tactics and "least worst".

redexpat · 13/12/2019 22:18

I dont undersatand - ego is saying they held their noses?

redexpat · 13/12/2019 22:19

Ego = who

It really doesn't.

To be so deeply irritated by people who can’t own their vote without prefacing it with ‘I held my nose and voted for.."

As I say, reading comprehension clearly not your strong point.

YABU. It's just a way of bemoaning the fact that none of the parties were actually a good option (which is definitely something worth bemoaning). How is that 'not owning your vote'? I 'held my nose'and voted Lib Dem. That doesn't mean I didn't have sound and considered reasons for doing so, or that I didn't 'own my vote'.

VanyaHargreeves · 13/12/2019 22:20

And as I said you are quite clearly a sneery, goady, individual who can do one.

Hiding the thread as OP is a rude piece of work not worth engaging with.

You quite clearly can't comprehend the thread so entirely best you hide it.

ShinyGiratina put it perfectly.

I am deeply fucked off that the state of British politics is so shit that I was forced to vote for the “least worst” option rather than a party I genuinely believe in.

And I’m going to moan about it; because moaning is a strong British tradition I am proud to uphold.

Butchyrestingface · 13/12/2019 22:35

Fuxake own your own actions

There’s nothing inherently inconsistent about holding one’s nose (not an expression I’d use anyway) AND owning one’s actions.

I didn’t vote for either Tory or Labour but my vote was a purely tactical one to get the Tory incumbent out. The successful candidate is aware of people having tactically voted for him as quite a number told him on Twitter. He was very gracious and thanked them.

Don’t understand why an admission of feeling conflicted about voting choice would wind anyone up. 🤷‍♀️

Pinkshoelace · 13/12/2019 22:38

I think it's important that people say that they had to 'hold their nose' or however else they chose to describe the same feelings because it's an acknowledgement of the fact that the current political parties on offer aren't to many peoples liking, and that they vote out of a sense of obligation or that they are making the least worse choice.

I don't think it's about distancing yourself from your choice at all.

If we want parties that reflect what we actually want, it's really important that future party leaders take into account the fact that many people don't feel well served.

I understand the 'nose holders' feelings entirely. When I've been able to, I've never passed up the opportunity to vote and I take it very seriously. However this is the first time I seriously felt like not voting or spoiling my ballot because I didn't like the idea of any of the people on offer getting in to power. Even on election day I was still contemplating not turning up. I voted with a sense of sadness and resentment.

NextdoorNeighbourIsATwat · 13/12/2019 22:38

Agreed OP.

Same as people who post a 'Daily Fail' link.

Waltergritty · 13/12/2019 22:43

Yep.
