I'd like to show my 11yo an idea of what others do. I think she thinks we all too much of her. She has to wash the dishes maybe 4 times a week, keep her room reasonably tidy., feed the guinea pigs a few times a week. She's just kicked off because she's been asked to take the inside bin bag to the outside bin.

Setting and clearing the table, hoovering, sweeping the yard. My children don't always help setting the table as we often do it in increments while cooking, but they always help clearing it.

WalkAwaySugarbear · 14/12/2019 06:39

They (11 &7) don't have set chores except for keeping their bedrooms tidy, putting clean washing away but have to do jobs on request, eg empty dishwasher, rubbish out for recycling, milk bottles out. The eldest will make porridge for the youngest and bring me a coffee in bed.

Bunnybigears · 14/12/2019 06:40

My 12 year old walks the dog, puts the clothes on the air to dry, empties the dishwasher, puts the bins out, makes simple meals etc. He doesnt have set jobs but basically if I ask him to do it he does it.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 14/12/2019 06:41

DD will be 11 next week. Along with her 13 yr old brother she is expected to:

  • Put her clean laundry away
  • Help set and clear table, and load dishwasher
  • Sort recycling
  • Pitch in with tidying at weekends. We tend to do a hoovering etc as a family team effort.

She's also supposed to keep her bedroom tidy but this doesn't happen. I just close the door on it!

PooWillyBumBum · 14/12/2019 06:41

Similar to you really. Room tidy (bed made every day, then tidy whenever I poke my head in and get upset), put all her own laundry away - I just leave it in a clean heap on her dresser, and empty dishwasher maybe 2-3 times a week.

poorbuthappy · 14/12/2019 06:44

Unload dishwasher. Make beds. Tidy up after themselves.

Weenurse · 14/12/2019 06:45

Cook 1 night a week, set table and clean up 2 nights a week post dinner.
Feed the dog 2 nights a week.
Do their own washing and keep their rooms and bathroom tidy.

k1233 · 14/12/2019 06:50

Family meal one night per week, dishes every night, make own breakfast, clean room including dusting regularly, help with general chores and cooking.

Phillipa12 · 14/12/2019 06:54

My 11 year old ds takes the wheelie bins out and brings them back in on collection day, its a 70m walk. He also will go and put rubbish/recycling in them. He cleans his room, generally helps tidy up and has just started doing the dishes to help me out. (Was not asked) my little two are 5 and 4 and they like taking stuff out to the recycling and attempting to make their beds.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/12/2019 06:55

8yo

  • tidy up after herself
  • put clean clothes away
  • help lay/clear table
  • make her own breakfast (a parent is around, but she likes doing this!)
  • make sure her dirty clothes reach the wash pile
  • making sure her bike tyres are full of air/pumping them up

She helps with other stuff like cooking, hoovering, gardening etc as needed.

Pinkyyy · 14/12/2019 07:09

Set/clear the table
Help with dishwasher loading and unloading/ washing up
Change bedding once a week
Hoover and wash floors
Bring all dirty laundry to the basket every day

Hepsibar · 14/12/2019 07:10

Jolly good luck getting them to do anything at all. You are an excellent and determined person.

Mine were totally terrible when younger but now nearly grown up will do, clearing plates from table, washing downstairs, keep rooms tidy, occasional hoovering, and will cook.

You could tie chores to pocket money, I know a lot of families do this.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 14/12/2019 07:12

Ha.

I make the nearly 3 yr old help with the following:

  • unloading dishwasher daily
  • laying table daily
  • putting clean clothes away
  • tidying toys daily

Your 11 yr old needs to pull her finger out.

motortroll · 14/12/2019 07:20

12 year old - unload dishwasher whenever asked, tidy room (it lasts about 2hours!), hang washing when asked, sort dry washing, put own washing away, Hoover room, landing, sometimes stairs about once a week (I have a hip problem so tricky for me) clean 2 toilets and sinks once a week. (We have 4! I do bath and showers) tidy lounges. This I is all adhoc, usually at weekend. She doesn't whinge but I get a lot of "Jesus" under her breath 😂

11 year old take bins out daily and same as above.

6 year old. Hoover lounge diner when asked (with hand held hoover) bring glasses plates etc when asked. Tidy cushions and blankets on sofas. Tidy room. She could do more. I just spoil her!

motortroll · 14/12/2019 07:21

Oh they also all have to strip and remake their own beds (with help for 6 year old)

MinervaVause · 14/12/2019 07:29

9 & 10

They make their own beds/open curtains/keep their own bedrooms tidy. Then they don’t really have set jobs but help as we need.

They tend to take turns to load/unload the dishwasher, start their own laundry although we’ll all help hang it out and they’ll put it away, general tidying, vacuuming, putting rubbish/recycling out.

The 10 year old is great at cleaning the bathroom and the 9 year old makes fab cups of tea.

They both cook a family meal each once a week.

Everything is more of a team effort really.

LAA2 · 14/12/2019 10:05

My ds(10) chore list
Morning jobs: opens his curtains, makes his bed, puts any items on his bedroom floor onto his bed, sort all washing into piles and loads washing machine, transfers to dryer when done, feeds our dog and lets him out in garden, prepares his and his sisters breakfast.
Afternoon jobs: put his clothes away, puts items on his bed in right places, help with dinner preparation twice a week.

Weekend jobs: strip his bed and vacuum and polish bedroom.

Everyone is responsible for their own bedroom and I clean and tidy everywhere else.
