Attached is a picture of my hair. I had a balayage and wanted to go back to blonde. I understand this is a process and miracles are not to be expected. Highlights were used with a low volume bleach and strong toner. This is because my hair is snapped in places and not healthy.

This was my first visit to this highly recommended hairdresser. The hairdresser took a before picture. She said this was because the difference would be a great Instagram picture. She didn't take an after. I assume because she wasn't happy with it. She says because of the lighting due to it being dark once it was finished. When she started, it was dark. It wasn't going to get any lighter with it being night.

I have said I am not happy with the colour but can see the skill in the highlighting so didn't complain and booked another appointment. After, I got more unhappy with the colour. I messaged saying that if she cannot guarantee that she can get it to match the rest of the hair then I want a balayage again. She said balayage will be better. This is an extra £30 than the half head of highlights. £108 total. I paid £67 for the attached which was reduced as she felt so sorry for me and my past hair experience. She has said she is happy with how it turned out. If she expected it to turn out this colour surely she should have toned down the rest?

AIBU to expect either an attempt to correct it or the balayage at a reduced rate?

I think it looks good considering what you are trying to achieve. It would be very damaging to lighten such dark hair in one step, it needs to be done in stages which can take a while. I personally would wait it out at least another month then go back, in the mean time using as little heat styling on it as possible. I think YABU to expect a hairdresser to do this process for free.

If it makes you feel any better I had balayage. First result was not what the hairdresser expected. I posted a pic on here and people slated my poor hair! I went back for round two and it was soooooo much better. Posted an update picture and people were impressed. I still have it done now. The first time can always look ropey and yes I paid full price.

@halloumi2019 yes, other hairdressers have been able to get it blonde on first bleach and others not. I was very clear in that my hair is stubborn and always goes warm unless it's toned well. She said not to worry.

I've spoken to her about going fully brown and she's said no need. Balayage will be fine.

I didn't expect it to be exactly the same. I expected a small banding and some brown sneaking through but the blonde on the roots to be a few shades darker than the ends. Not a totally different colour.

Fuck it. Sounds like it's right to pay in full for both last time and this time. I would always pay for her hours as she's put that in but would say shouldn't pay full if it looks shit. I've had to move my parting so it's slightly acceptable. Where we had agreed the parting was the worst part.

Hmm I agree I can see the banding and agree where you say you should of been told that it would take more than one sitting but at the same time £67 is cheap for in a salon. I have balayage hair and have stuck with it for four years now and my hair has never been healthier. We matched a colour to my roots and I just have some highlights through the top now. I literally have my hair coloured about 3/4 times a year! It is so easy to maintain. I think good hairdressers are hard to come by. I am so lucky to have a lovely lady come to my house to do me and my mums hair a few times a year. I completely trust her and would not let anyone else colour or cut my hair after having basically dry, bleached hair between the age of 14-22. When I met her we did what was best for my hair and maintenance and I have never looked back! It might be worth finding someone based on their reviews etc. Good luck! She recently told me about an amazing conditioner I'll attach a pic. I use purple shampoo quite a lot which can dry your hair out but this stuff is fab and it smells AMAZING. It might help if you need it bleaching again.

I think you're looking at different hair op. Your hair isn't 'warm' or 'brassy' at all.

It definitely looks brassy in area, especially if OP was assured by the hairstylist that it would resemble the blonde lengths more
