To ask what to do with this teddy bear

My Fil's wife brought round a Teddy bear for my dc. She said it used to be her daughters. It was a nice gesture but its old (from the 90s the label says) and we'll loved by the look of it. I have too many toys for my dc and my house is getting cluttered and I'm getting rid of toys my dc doesn't play with to take it to the charity shop. What do I do with this teddy - take to charity shop or give it back to fil's wife since she said it was her daughters or would that offend her? If I take it to charity shop is there a chance she might ask where it is or ask for it back?

Your fil wifes daughters? I don't think she would probably mind what you do if she gave it to you. If it meant so much to her I don't think she would of wanted to run the risk of it being thrown she would of said something like "when she outgrows it or gets bored with it can you pass it back as it was my daughter's etc.."

@ILikePandas15

Keep it! No reason not to.

I think the CE mark was around in the 90s, I’m sureI had teddies from then which had it but if it’s well loved a charity shop probably won’t want it.

How old is the daughter? If she's likely to have children of her own in the next few years, you could keep it to gift back to her then.

Why not talk to your father in law and tell him exactly what you’ve said here. Communication is key after all.

Can it be ‘lost’ on a day out?

RandomMess · 14/12/2019 19:14

Ask to leave it FILs to play with it?

Is her own daughter still around? If so I'd offer it to her.
