The last few weeks, months, years have felt so divisive: the ref, multiple elections, polarised debate, cultural/political/environmental crises etc.
In the spirit of Christmas, I'd love to escape that for a bit. Especially today. We don't know who will govern us tomorrow. Chances are millions of people won't like the outcome. In the meantime, can we celebrate what's good about the place and what brings us together?
I am being unashamedly cheesy here, but I think it would be great to be positive for once!

Wave goodbye to Scotland...

I miss the coastline... The north sea, crashing waves... Greasy spoon cafes and strong cups of tea.

Most of the rest (democracy, freedom of speech, good healthcare free at the point of use) is at least as good in the EU country I live in. I used to prefer the UK educational system but I think it's been destroyed over the last 15 -20 years and become poorer for being as test (rather than genuine holistic learning) oriented as any other now.

Country pubs.
The sunset or sunrise at the beach (Formby in particular).
The amount of delicious premade food ready to buy (the good party bits, not crappy ready meals).
Tea.
Tea with sugar.
Tea with honey.
The fact I gave my neighbours a box of chocolates with their Christmas card and their face lit up like it was Christmas already.
M&S food.
Squash (as in the stuff in bottles).
Saying "Morning!" or "Hello!" and smiling at any random stranger when you're walking the same country walk or out walking the dog at 6am and them saying it right back.
Ramblers!
Ramblers Cafes!
Go Outdoors when the Sale is on.
That everyone will give the same rushed, knowing eye roll look when pushing a huge trolley to the car with great effort next week.
Rain. I bloody LOVE rain.
National Trust houses.
English Heritage places.
That the word fuck/fucking/fucksake etc are all part of every day conversation and can be used so articulately, and with such nuance that it makes me want to cry with joy.
That my DS has the best little RP accent at 2.5yrs due to cbeebies even though we're in the North West 😁
