Advent calendar doors – open or torn off?

Celebelly · 12/12/2019 12:04

Settle this debate between me and DP (who is about to be DH as of 3pm tomorrow Grin )

He thinks you rip the advent calendar doors off once you open them (YABU)
I think you leave them on and just have them ajar (YANBU)

Also are they doors or windows? I've said doors but maybe they're windows! Anyway...

Go to it!

DD has a HP one - all doors left on and closed again (does not get this from me, no no)

CountFosco · 13/12/2019 00:25

The only people who rip the doors off are the sort of low life scum who have chocolate advent calendars Hugs tasteful Italian street scene advent calendar to breast (carefully so it doesn't get damaged)

feliciabirthgiver · 13/12/2019 00:29

Open then close if chocolate variety and unappealing interior, open and ajar if attractive picture lurks behind said door

feliciabirthgiver · 13/12/2019 00:30

Sorry I only really meant to post to congratulate you and wish you good luck for today

MrsJoshNavidi · 13/12/2019 00:37

You're going to need to get this sorted before 3pm tomorrow OP, or it might be a very short marriage!!
FWIW: Doors. Leave them on/ajar.

UrsulaPandress · 13/12/2019 00:44

I had to reuse my religious advent calendar as a child.

So I knew what was coming with every window.

How very different to DDs Paperchase calendar this year.

Tookseveralnamechanges · 13/12/2019 08:31

Open and closed! By yhe time you get to the 20th it isnt fun to find the right number anymore because there are pnly 5 to choose from. Whereas if you close the door back up you have to find it out of 24/5,. Finding the right number is the best part.

MrsToothyBitch · 13/12/2019 08:34

Open & close!

duvetaddict · 13/12/2019 08:43

Open!

MamaWeasel · 13/12/2019 09:40

Rip off if perforated, open (and leave open) if not perforated. We have one of each in our household, mine get torn off neatly and hubby's get left on.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 13/12/2019 09:47

Open then close.
Especially on the lego one as the picture on the box is the backdrop.

Nousernameforme · 13/12/2019 09:48

Mines a lego one the inside door bit has the instructions on so they need to be kept on

spingly · 13/12/2019 09:49

Open and ajar!

Laylalayla · 13/12/2019 09:50

You are BOTH unreasonable!

1-9 open then shut again
10th - leave open and go back and open 1-9
11-19- continue to leave open
20th- rip off all opened doors, rip off doors every day until the 24th

This way you get to the 10th and feel Xmas is so close. And from the 20th even closer and even easier to spot unopened doors.

I'm training my children in this method.

Oysterbabe · 13/12/2019 09:51

Doors and you tear them off. Ours has perforations to make it easier.

FriedasCarLoad · 13/12/2019 09:55

Part of his speech should definitely involve taking a vote - let the wedding guests decide!

(Although obviously if they say rip, they’re wrong Wink)

ohhshizz · 13/12/2019 09:58

I rip them off

spingly · 13/12/2019 09:59

@Laylalayla whatttttt!

We can't be friends, that's all manner of wrong!

Cineraria · 13/12/2019 10:00

Opened and left open. The picture is on the inside of the door of the DC's Moo Free ones, so it would be odd to remove them.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 13/12/2019 10:02

There was no option to vote for "open and then close again" but that's what I would have picked Grin

DD has opened each door, taken out the item, fawned over it and then put it back in again and closed the door!! I only realised this morning and when I asked her why she said she wants to wait until she has all the pieces and then 'build the scene' at once and play with it!

ArchieStar · 13/12/2019 10:09

I rip them off - and my kids too they don’t have a choice.

Though mine stems from a rebellion from my horrible nana who used them as one of her many forms of mind control so I know mine is an odd view.

DarlingCoffee · 13/12/2019 10:11

Congratulations and no, that’s unthinkable to rip them off!

YourOpinionIsNoted · 13/12/2019 10:14

Open and ajar!!

You sure you want to go through with that wedding ceremony, op?! Grin

DD rips them off. She brings me the poor little door every morning. It makes me twitch.

IWouldBeSuperb · 13/12/2019 10:23

Why would they be perforated if they aren't meant to be ripped off?!

And, door-closers, how on earth do you get excited about the big day approaching when the calendar looks exactly the same on the 24th as it did on the 1st?!

Never realised quite how strongly I felt about this... Grin
