Can my 14 month old have duvet and pillow?

He’s still in his cot, outgrowing his sleeping bag now.
Can he have a toddler duvet and pillow? Or is it unsafe?

Yes, my LO is a similar age and has a pillow and duvet

MrsL2016 · 12/12/2019 10:34

Yes they can have a pillow and duvet after 12 months. My DS swapped over around the same time.

AllTheCakes · 12/12/2019 10:37

My little one moves around so much I would worry about the duvet coming off and him waking up cold. You can get big Gro bags for older babies which is what I would do.

DownWhichOfLate · 12/12/2019 10:38

I wouldn’t bother with a pillow, they don’t really need one. Duvet, yes.

SpongeCake23 · 12/12/2019 10:38

@catandadogandababy do you have all four cot sides up with a pillow and duvet? Someone said to me you need to have the cot side down if using one.

Yes I do.

Pilot12 · 12/12/2019 10:42

Yes the Silent Night one says from 12 months on the pack.

doritosdip · 12/12/2019 10:43

Yes you can but you risk him waking up because he's cold from kicking the blankets off.

User12879923378 · 12/12/2019 10:45

My 2 year old has loved a pillow since she was about 12 months. The blanket thing is true, though, mine never took to Grobags and we do get the odd scream of "BLANKET" at 3am Grin

lifeisgoodagain · 12/12/2019 11:00

Mine were in beds at that age so yes they had a duvet and pillow

Squaffle · 12/12/2019 11:04

Yes, go for it. DD was in grobags and I couldn't afford the larger sizes at the time. She is 3.5 and still doesn't have a pillow.

The best advice I ever read on here was to get a duvet slightly larger than the bed (so cotbed duvet for a cot, or single duvet for a cotbed) and then lie it lengthways so that you can tuck it right under the mattress.

RhymingRabbit3 · 12/12/2019 11:06

Yes it's fine, although it should be a small "toddler" pillow so quite flat.
Alternatively you can get bigger sleeping bags - gro bags go up to age 3

EpcotForever · 12/12/2019 11:12

Yes, mine is nearly 16 months and had a pillow and quilt just after turning 1. He has all 4 sides up on his cot still.

mumwon · 12/12/2019 11:18

years ago I got fleecy type over baby grow garment - it had feet & on the bottom of feet it had slipper type plastic - so you could put dc in them & they could walk round in them but they were covered - do they still do this type of thing (got them from Mothercare - sadly)?

MrsL2016 · 12/12/2019 15:30

All 4 cot sides up here too with a duvet. He does kick it off earlier in the night when he is settling and in a lighter sleep. I always check before I go to bed and recover if needed.

Stickybeaksid · 12/12/2019 15:37

Why do you not get a bigger grow bag?

cochineal7 · 12/12/2019 15:47

@squaffle what a brilliant tip! Wish I’d heard that earlier.

Whattodoabout · 12/12/2019 16:15

They can but I waited until they were closer to two before introducing duvets and pillows. I always preferred grobags.

MrsL2016 · 12/12/2019 19:16

Mine really started to dislike the grobag after a summer without it. He wanted the freedom to move around in the cot when he was awake and the grobag got in the way.
