If you're hung up on university rankings for Economics, did you fail to notice e.g. London School of Economics, Oxford, Cambridge
Indeed, I did have a quick look at the profiles of the Oxbridge 'economists' last week:
5 out of 10 academics/'economists' associated with Oxford are retired (emeritus) - all of them in their 70s and 80s. Another is a professor of Geography.
7 out of 9 at Cambridge appear to be foreign nationals. One academic revealed the results of an online survey she had completed for fun - her result was 'Orthodox Marxist'.
I expect the typical Oxbridge academic is more inclined to vote LibDem, not Labour.
I have just looked at the LSE profiles - 4 academics, 3 in their 70s. One is Labour peer Lord Desai, the profile of another says this;
"Participating in a group reading all three volumes of Marx’s Capital I determined to apply Marxist political economy to the understanding of social policy in advanced capitalist societies."
I think we can safely assume that many (most) of these 'economists' are somewhat 'left-wing'. Not to mention that half of the 160 'economists' appear to be foreign nationals, some of them from Latin America - no wonder the Labour Party want to give all UK residents (as well as UK citizens) the right to vote in general elections (page 47 of the large print manifesto - I couldn't open the main one).
Are there any other EU countries granting full voting rights (in general elections) for residents as well as citizens?
