Dammit! Clicked YABU, not YANBU! But, yes, the sooner people bog off and stop telling me how to vote, the better.

Bluntness100 · 11/12/2019 21:36

I'm sick of it too, all the bloody threads in here aren't helping either.

ginghambox · 11/12/2019 21:40

If you think it's bad on here now wait until Friday and the Tories get a majority.

user764329056 · 11/12/2019 21:40

Me too, not to mention the £millions this is all costing

Sunshinelollipops1 · 11/12/2019 21:41

Agreed sick of it. Also sick of on Mumsnet and other social media clearly planted threads/lines (same wording used). I think it’s really worrying for the future of democracy.

My particular hatred is the, “I’ve been a Tory/Labour voter since I was 18, but AIBU to consider voting Tory/Labour because of this issue I read about - links to story”.

Election, what election?

CodenameVillanelle · 11/12/2019 21:45

I'm very bothered, very bothered indeed but I didn't want a general election, it's horrible timing and has been stressing me out so much I haven't felt festive at all and probably won't afterwards, it's been a horrible, depressing, demoralising election after 3.5 years of utter bullshit, and it likely to signal even more of the same. This election can actually just fuck off.

Ravenrob · 11/12/2019 21:49

I have a feeling there will be another within the next two years, particularly if the Tories don't get a large majority.

littlepaddypaws · 11/12/2019 21:58

at least mners will be moaning about christmas dramas soon on here and we can get back to normal. it being so close to christmas is a added bonus so, who's dreading a tacky pair of socks or bubble bath in eau de pong this year ?

OP posts:
Miljea · 11/12/2019 22:18

Define 'back to normal ' in the context of a big Tory win, please.

BarbaraStrozzi · 11/12/2019 22:22

UP to a point, Lord Copper.

The thing about the last 3 and a half years of our politics has been that every time I thought "just let this bit be over, surely it can't get worse", it got worse.

So I can't say I'm holding out high hopes come Friday. The options are
a) lying, racist buffoon who'll destroy what little is left of our welfare state;
b) antisemitic hard left who'll destroy our economy;
c) hung parliament, 'cos that's been working so well for the last couple of years.

I'm beginning to see emigration or substance abuse as the only two viable options.

And wishing I had a monster raving loony party candidate to vote for tomorrow, because frankly that feels like the sanest option right now.

crazycadetmum · 11/12/2019 22:27

Barbarastrozzi...

You have summed up my thoughts exactly! My husband was moaning earlier about the lack of the monster raving party!

Hereismyreply · 11/12/2019 22:32

I am actually quite fearful of the result in a way that I have never been before. From what I have read, this election is really a choice between a Tory majority and a hung Parliament. I haven't seen any source that I would regard as remotely objective suggest that Labour could win a majority outright.

If we end up with Corbyn as PM of a minority government, he won't get the votes in Parliament to do anything extreme. The other parties supporting it will block him, or other Labour MPs will (because let's face it, trying to get Labour MPs to fall into line is a bit like herding cats). There will also be the full force of the media holding him to account (DM, Express, Sun, Telegraph, BBC, even the Guardian which though left leaning is clearly not keen on Corbyn). So he will have limited room for manoeuvre.

Contrast this with a Tory majority. Johnson has got rid of anyone who is remotely a dissenter (even people like Philip Hammond who was Tory enough to become Tory Chancellor or Amber Rudd who was Tory enough to be Tory home secretary). Others who disagree with Johnson are not standing this time or have defected to the Lib Dems and are unlikely to be re-elected. So the Tory MPs will all dutifully vote as they are told, however extreme the policy. The right wing media will turn a blind eye. The BBC will be wary of criticising him as Johnson has already mentioned the possibility of getting rid of the licence fee. Tories have also threatened to remove Channel 4's licence. And if any MPs do get it together enough to provide serious opposition, this is a PM who's already shown readiness to shut down Parliament once. But next time around there will be no Lady Hale to tell him he can't do that, as a quick skim of the Tory manifesto will tell you they are planning to "reform" the Supreme Court. Scary times.

BlackForestCake · 11/12/2019 22:42

the £millions this is all costing

Let's have a dictatorship, that would be much cheaper Hmm

I find it sad that so many people are dismissive of one of the few opportunities we have to influence the way the country we live in is run. The result of the election will affect all of us and our families.

NiceViper · 11/12/2019 22:47

I can't wait for polls to open and news coverage to be suspended. All they'll be able to say tomorrow is 'voting is underway'

And then we get other news, thank goodness

Instagrrr · 11/12/2019 23:01

In all honesty it’s harming my mental healthy. Everywhere I look people are arguing about who supports who. If you support this party you’re a workshy scrounger if you vote for this party you’re an nhs hating rich snob... along with all the drivel and fake news blasted about too

I actually hate it, can’t wait for it to be over and people getting the fuck on with their lives after voting for what was important to THEM.

Be glad you're not in the USA, we call it the land of the never-ending election. I recall being there in 2016, before the election, and they were talking about 2020 and in October this year we heard discussions of 2024!

RancidOldHag · 11/12/2019 23:47

Good job that electioneering isn't a synonym for politics!

Totally possible to be fed up with election coverage, and how all domestic politics falls into a lacuna during it, for reasons other than lack of interest.

Really looking forward to other news getting some coverage for 24 hours.

Can’t wait for it to be over. Every single party is horrifically shit and it will be a disaster whoever wins. I don’t like Johnson/Corbyn/Swinson or Sturgeon. All bloody useless.
