Is it ok to take babies out after their injections? Or do they need to rest at home?
Thanks :)

Don’t give calpol before or after the vaccination.

Don’t get them if they’re at all unwell.

Taking them out makes no difference. Either they’ll have a reaction or they won’t. You can’t change that after the vaccination.

Xyzzzzz · 11/12/2019 17:07

Not sure why this is in AIBU.

Depends on how Ill the baby is after the injections. Mine had high temp.

Bananacloud · 11/12/2019 17:08

Hi, thanks for your reply. But giving calpol after injection is recommend, so why would you advise against it?

@Xyzzzzz hi sorry yeah, shamelessly posting here to get quick answers Blush

Not necessarily, it depends on how the baby reacts. Mine was hysterical at one lot but fine for others for some reason.

dementedpixie · 11/12/2019 17:17

3 doses of paracetamol are recommended after the MenB vaccination one of which is given at 16 weeks so ignore @BlueGingerale on that one.

Depends on how you baby is as to whether you go out or not

SquigglePigs · 11/12/2019 17:21

Definitely give the calpol. At least the first dose. Whether your DC needs any more will depend how they react. Going out after will also depend how they react. All my little one wanted to do was snuggle and feed. Much like today after her 12 month jabs! Maybe just don't plan anything you can't rearrange.

happycamper11 · 11/12/2019 17:22

Calpol is now suggested for 16 week injections since the introduction of the menB vaccine. It hasn't always been the case but is certainly recommended now. Wrt taking baby out, just play it by ear, he might be fine or just a bit grumpy and a walk out in a pray might help or he might be more unwell and be better off at home. There's no way to know

Bananacloud · 11/12/2019 17:29

Thanks everyone for your advice

If you reduce the fever (with calpol) you also reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine.

dementedpixie · 11/12/2019 17:31

It is specifically advised to take it for the MenB vaccine though. Its on the NHS website

BlueGingerale · 11/12/2019 17:32

Tylenol is the US name for Calpol.

Here are more reasons why you shouldn’t give it with vaccines:

dementedpixie · 11/12/2019 17:35

UK was first to introduce menB vaccine in the schedule and advice has changed for that specific vaccine (no others)

happycamper11 · 11/12/2019 17:36

I'd probably rather listen to the NHS official advice than a random persons blog from another country.

Piglet89 · 11/12/2019 17:38

@BlueGingerale well done for linking an article correlating use of Calpol/Tylenol before/after vaccines with autism.

What utter horse shit.

happycamper11 · 11/12/2019 17:41

@Piglet89 I saw the source and didn't even bother to read the article. Knew it would be crap

Northernsoullover · 11/12/2019 17:46

Kitchen stewardship? I'd be laughed out of my public health modules if I included such a source Grin

Re. the calpol thing - you're right, it is recommended most of the time. Rather than questioning the posters who are challenging this, I'd just ask the nurse when you take your child. Reassurance from a professional is best.

happycamper11 · 11/12/2019 18:00

Not most of the time - it's is important! (Source NHS)

www.gov.uk/government/publications/menb-vaccine-and-paracetamol there are links to the NHS leaflets on here

Sandaled · 11/12/2019 18:14

It's important to give Calpol after the men b injections, the nurse who does the vaccine will explain when to give it and what dose. I would say it's probably best to plan a relaxed day just in case, my DS was just very sleepy and a bit irritable; nothing too bad (and definitely worth it), but it was better relaxing in jammies. If you need to go out though I don't see a reason why not.
