Hi all,
Not sure if IABU so interested to hear your views!
My mum has bought a nail dryer with LED for my dds , 12 and 10 for Christmas. I had assumed it dries normal nail polish which they like to put in sometimes and have no problems with.
However now I've found out LED only dries out gellac nail polish and not the normal stuff.
I've never had gellac and don't even use normal nail polish, so had a browse online to see what gellac is.

It doesn't read like it's appropriate for kids at all: it sticks to the natural nail, can damage the nail and especially the skin around due to the UV light.
WIBU to say she can't gift them gellac and the LED dryer ?? Or am I too cautious? Thanks!

It's not good for nails and I wouldn't use it on children.

No way.

SherlocksDeerstalker · 10/12/2019 19:05

I definitely wouldn’t. I don’t even get my own done that often, I wouldn’t be letting children of that age get it done. Not matter how much they day it won’t, I find it always damages my natural nail bed.

Thanks for your quick replies! And for confirming what I had read online. I'll tell her she can't gift it as it's not suitable for them.

I wouldn't use it on children. You can't just wipe it off with normal remover, you need to soak it off in acetone and it's takes around 20-30 minutes.

Maybe your Mum got confused and thought this was a nail drying set? It is in a way! Maybe she could return it and exchange for a nail dryer for young girls.

No chance I'd let my girls use one.

Shellac or Gelish I think! but regardless of the name, neither are suitable for pre-teens - particularly home application and removal.

I've had gel on my nails solid for last 5 years because underneath they are destroyed and it's a bit of a vicious circle, terrible I know! No way would I let kids have free reign to use it on themselves, it lasts for weeks for starters if they don't make a good job of it then they're stuck with it and also wrecks your nails. Maybe when they're a bit older it would be a better idea.
