Help related to voting

sazzle27 · 10/12/2019 16:48

Posting shamelessly for traffic, so yes IABU.

However.

I've seen on various threads here about somewhere online you can see the ?seats of various parties in your local area where you vote, and how this is useful, especially with regards to tactical voting.

I have tried to google to find such a site to help me pock who best to vote for, but to no avail.

Can anyone here post a link where i can find this information please?

Thanks!

Which seat are you in?

PrittSticky · 10/12/2019 16:50

There are several tactical voting sites, but most have their own interest, and imo don't necessarily recommend the Remain party most likely to win in your local area (presuming you want to vote tactically for Remain).

I am looking to vote to stop a Tory seat..

Labour came 2nd in Witham at the last General Election. Lib Dems were 3rd.

If you are registered to vote, your polling card should tell you what constituency you are in.

If you're in Witham, you won't stop the Tories winning. That's Priti Patel's seat and she had 18-19k majority at the last election.

Weekday28 · 10/12/2019 19:28

Even if you live in a massive majority tory seat (like I do) it's still important to vote labour/lib dem as when the next election comes around figures will be used from this election so if we can make the majority smaller this time it will help next time to encourage those to vote more tactically.

SilverySurfer · 10/12/2019 19:52

Well obviously I won't be doing that since I vote for the Tories.

ViaSacra · 10/12/2019 21:54

Witham is about as safe as a Tory seat can be - you must know that. However you vote will make no difference to the result.

Just vote for whichever party you feel your views align most closely with - party vote share dictates the amount of funding they get over the next parliament, so your vote will have a small beneficial effect on the party of your choice.

I'm in Witham Constituency too, always has been blue, always will be. Such a large majority, no tactical voting will reverse that.

leckford · 10/12/2019 22:08

Are you sure you are registered to vote? We had our polling cards at least a week ago and they tell you where to vote. Village hall/
School, etc

sazzle27 · 10/12/2019 22:11

Okay, so with everyone jumping on me for the fact Witham is pure Tory...
I was initially unaware which constituency I was under.

Since looking online, yes I can see how much of a stronghold the Tories have on it and that one vote won't make a difference.

And to pre empt further comments.....Inhave just moved house and don't actually live in Witham, I am further up the a12 than that so was surprised I still come under that.

DP has decided that sorting my important papers into some pile somewhere was a good plan, but I will be double checking when I find my poll card.

Also, SilverySurfer totally pointless comment. Vote however you wish, but there's no need to make a bland throwaway comment like that, about how you're voting, on a thread asking for help... Hmm

@leckford

Definitely registered to vote! I have my card but DP is on a massive house tidy/sort and moved my polling card somewhere safe...
And is on a night shift so I can't ask him where to.... 🤦🏼‍♀️

sazzle you don’t need the card to vote, you can just go to the polling station. If you haven’t voted where you live now before, call your council - or one of the parties - and ask where your polling station is. Please don’t not vote just because you’ve lost the card

sazzle27 · 10/12/2019 22:54

I remember seeing where to vote on the card!

I will be voting regardless, and I will see DP before I go to vote Thursday so do not fear!

I strongly persuaded bombarded with links him to register as we have moved, as he didnt think you had to reregister.. but he has, I have, and we shall be voting on Thursday!
No fear thinive
