Hi

We are in the process of buying a new build redrow home. Upon our home preview we have noticed the bath is the current way round to the plans and show home. Ie the taps trap and glass screen is on the opposite wall. I really don't like it.

Can I ask them to change it. It has all been tiled. Or atee they in their rights to make these changes

Hi op i really dont think you can ask them to change it bug ask and see what they say!

When i bought my last house which was a new build we were told show home has a window in x place but your house wont due to proximity of next door.
Were you not shown a plan of your house as this shows bayh position

Hi

The plans all have the bath the other way around.

See picture. But they have installed it with the shower head against the external wall. The glass screen will also be against the external wall. Which makes me feel like the bathroom with feel smaller. As before it was all hidden behind the door.

You can ask. There may be a reason why it was done that way, but you won’t know unless you ask. Our neighbours don’t have a window in their cloakroom, or on their landing and we do. House design is exactly the same. I guess it depends on the plot and position.

We had a house built a few years back. We had certain things we could change from the base plans and others that simply had to be done a certain way. One big thing we could not change beyond a few cm wiggle room were the "installation walls" - the walls pipes could be put through for fresh and waste water. They much preferred to run pipes in the outside walls and load-bearing walls because of the thickness needed for that. Maybe that's why they put the shower where it is? Also, did you see just pictures or the actual technical drawings/installation plans? In my experience, in pictures they put whatever they think looks good, but the technical plans have to be 100% accurate.

I think your success will hinge on where the bath is shown on the actual engineering drawing plans, not just the schematic plans that they give you when you're looking to buy / are on Rightmove etc.

The schematics are just examples as they are often produced without the full engineering plans being available and are subject to change. The routing of plumbing may well mean that it makes more sense for the bathroom to be flipped (for example if it reduces the length of low gradient piping). When you say plans, which do you mean?

Where's the picture?

Hi,

I have the technical drawings which all show the bath the otherway. Unfortunately I don't know how to add pictures to mumsnet. There is no attachment button.

I spoke to the site and they said it was due to the glass screen being behind the door therefore didn't want the door to smash the glass screen. They then advised the show home was incorrect and I advised that the plans I had were the other way around.

The whole bathroom is tiles fitted and completed now. We get the keys in 2 weeks time. I feel like the battle is too big to fight and I will have to suck it and take it.

If anyone can show me how to add the plans I can do so.
