Wrapping paper

supadupapupascupa · 09/12/2019 21:52

I'm sick of wrapping paper not being recyclable. Glitter, sellotape, bows you name it. I really want to wrap in fabric but I just don't have time to prep for this year, can anyone recommend some nice paper that can go into the recycling afterwards preferably produced in a planet friendly way?

I like this.

www.paperchase.com/en_gb/christmas/wrap/3-for-2-christmas-wrapping-paper/kraft-arctic-pals-christmas-roll-wrapping-paper-5m.html

Paperchase will tell you in the description box if it's recyclable or not.

I've been using brown paper for years, plus a bit of red marker pen scribble.

supadupapupascupa · 09/12/2019 22:02

Ooh thank you, will have a look!

I use brown paper and decorate it with ribbon/string and a Christmas decoration that can then go on the tree

northernlittledonkey · 09/12/2019 22:05

We’re using brown paper this year & I’ve bought some stamps to decorate it. Can then burn it 😁

northernlittledonkey · 09/12/2019 22:05

In the fire, not just randomly

We’ve been recycling the same gift bags for years. My boys don’t even wrap their gifts to me and each other until they come hone to visit. They get home and have a rummage through the bags. It still looks festive under the tree, without the mess, waste of money and guilt afterwards. Grin

In the fire, not just randomly

I was thinking that was a weird and dangerous ritual to do in your sitting or living room. Grin

I bought some lovely (but ridiculously expensive) recycled & recyclable wrapping paper from re-wrapped.co.uk :)

Tesco are doing recyclable wrapping paper this year. It has a green label and was on offer last week.

scrivette · 09/12/2019 22:10

The children are reusing the Amazon paper that comes in the boxes as packaging by decorating it with pens. Not sure it would work for adult gifts though.

You could buy plain paper bags (red or white) and tie them with ribbon/a tree decoration. Simple but would look very pretty.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 09/12/2019 22:11

Use coloured/patterned washi tape instead of selotape. It's not plastic and recyclable.

judithandholofernes · 09/12/2019 22:13

Wrapping paper isn’t recycle able? Shock

supadupapupascupa · 09/12/2019 22:14

Fab ideas thank you. Where's the best place to buy brown paper?

Use coloured/patterned washi tape instead of selotape. It's not plastic and recyclable.

I had to read that again, as I was wondering how they made tape out of wasabi beans. Blush

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 09/12/2019 22:17

I brought some brown paper sandwich bags from Poundland recently. Have stamped them up, and put ribbon on them.

DogCatHat · 09/12/2019 22:19

The Range has big rolls of brown paper; I'd say the likes of B&M, Home Bargains etc would do it too. Try potato or sponge printing onto it, it looks lovely if you do it well (or you can let the kids go nuts with it and it'll look fun!).

Whatsnewpussyhat · 09/12/2019 22:20

You can buy brown paper by the roll from wilko or the post office. B+m or home bargains might sell it too.

Pipandmum · 09/12/2019 22:20

If you can scrunch it and it doesn't have glitter or metallic ink you can recycle wrapping paper. No need to go plain brown if you dont want to.

supadupapupascupa · 09/12/2019 22:20

Great! Thank you

DogCatHat · 09/12/2019 22:22

@judithandholofernes mostly not. A lot of it has a layer of foil which can't be recycled - basically if it has any shiny bits or glitter, then it definitely can't be recycled. If no shiny bits and no glitter then there's a chance it's ok, but you'd need to check the packaging.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 09/12/2019 22:22

I have used brown paper for the last 2 years (massive rolls on Amazon...bought last year and will do this year's presents too) last year I used red and green rafia to decorate, this year I've gone with a gold/brown and a cream ribbon

I wasn't thinking about recycling last year just loved the way it looks tbh

startingtoday · 09/12/2019 22:24

I've used lining wallpaper with hand painted decoration , looks good and very cheap!

chocatoo · 09/12/2019 23:05

Is tissue paper recycleable? That’s what I like to use.
