National Citizen Service holiday programme. It only cost £30 for 3 weeks and she will do activities and learn 'to adult's. All sounds great on paper but some reviews on Facebook are quite worrying. Aibu if I change my mind?

My son absolutely loved his 4 weeks. One of the best things he has done.

JustDanceAddict · 09/12/2019 20:52

I paid £50 and was best money I’ve ever spent. DD loved it, she still sees her friends a lot after 18 months, goes to parties etc.
I have heard mixed reports too so it’s a bit of luck of who you’re put with as well.

EduCated · 09/12/2019 20:54

It’s run by different companies/groups in different areas, so worth checking whether the reviews relate to your area or not. Each one organises it slightly differently though the overall premise and structure is the same.

Don’t have direct experience but have heard mostly positive things about it on the whole!

pootroll · 09/12/2019 20:55

Ours was absolutely rubbish but friends children in a different area had a brilliant time. Depends on the group and the leader. Hopefully it will be brilliant

samlovesdilys · 09/12/2019 20:56

It's a really great programme in my experience, lots of students participate every year...but isn't the idea students sort it out themselves as their first step at trying to 'adult'??!!

ShiningTor · 09/12/2019 21:23

My dc both did it and it was amazing, best value £30 ever!!

ItWasntMyFault · 09/12/2019 21:26

My dd did it 5 years ago and loved it. It was definitely money well spent.

Ragwort · 09/12/2019 21:27

My DS really enjoyed it (pretended he didn’t), had a great time and met a nice bunch of new friends. He moaned a bit before but was a great experience.

HairyFloppins · 09/12/2019 21:28

My dd loved hers and made lots of friends.

SpottedOnMN · 09/12/2019 21:54

My DD loved it and is still in touch with the friends she made over a year later.

Ishoos · 09/12/2019 21:57

My son loved it and I’ve heard good reports from 2 other areas too. You get to go to a prep meeting and ask questions. Tbh for £30 I think it’s worth giving it a go.

moreturkeyforme · 09/12/2019 22:00

Both mine did it. Really enjoyed it

They did it following their GCSE because that is a really long summer for them and time needs to be filled constructively.

Catrescue1971 · 09/12/2019 22:02

My ds loved it. He is autistic and was with a fabulous supportive group. He had 2 weeks of residential and two weeks where I drove him to and fro, which was hard on me lol, but worth it!

Witness55 · 09/12/2019 22:10

Well I'm feeling slightly more positive now thanks! Will find out a bit more info tomorrow hopefully.

YABU if you did it without her agreeing.

The decision should come from her.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 09/12/2019 22:17

Def depends on area, one DD hated it and the other refused to go after I’d booked her place.

SuperficialSuzie · 09/12/2019 22:18

DS loved his, just signed DD up for it for this year.

MrsJBaptiste · 09/12/2019 22:26

Just about to sign DS up for next summer, it sounds great!

I don't suppose any of you who kids have done it want to say where you live? I'm interested to know if it will be good in Leeds or not!

pointythings · 09/12/2019 22:30

If you booked it without her agreement, YABU. If she's on board, YANBU. Mine didn't do it - very mixed feedback in our area. A friend of DD2's did it and liked parts, hated other parts, didn't like the kids she was with at all.

Witness55 · 10/12/2019 16:04

Dd begged me to book her on it so I did! There's a 14 day cooling off period while I research it a bit more. Some reviews just worried me that's all. Going to find out where exactly she will be as the option to collect her if it goes tits up would be nice! She mentioned Scotland though and we are in W. Yorks!
