I'm posting here for traffic really. My lovely 15 yo DS has really bad acne all over his face, and although he's using Clearasil stuff, it's not really helping, although it does get worse if the bottle runs out and he hasn't reminded me to get him some more!

Has anyone found anything which has really helped their teen's skin to improve - or should I give up with OTC stuff and take him to the GP? He rarely complains about anything, but this is getting him down.

I tried all manner of natural treatments with DD2 when she was a teen. None worked. I was chatting to her one day happened to glance at her and my heart sank. I thought about how I would feel at that age, with acne on my face?

No more natural. Took her to GP got antibiotics. Acne cleared within a month or so. The difference it made to her confidence was amazing.

Push for a GP appointment, OP.

You can buy acnecide (benzoyl peroxide) OTC in pharmacies. It worked very well for me as a teen and I still use it now when I get hormonal breakouts. My dB used it too as a teen. I recommend trying that before going for anything stronger. Am very wary of roccutane.

Oh and I had bad acne as a teenager and it cleared it completely up. It doesn't work for everyone I've read online but I've recommended it to a few people I know IRL and it's worked for all of them.

My son had two years on antibiotics and topical creams . Nothing worked as he had cystic acne.
The go refused a dermatologist referral so I had to make a complaint and then he got the referral .
He had two courses of roacutane over a few years .
It was the only thing that cleared his acne . He had terrible scarring to his back and torso though as he had to wait so many years for treatment .

If I could turn the clock back I would’ve asked for the referral sooner.
But he had cystic acne which is different to other acne. Not sure what your son has .

Please try Acnecide 5% gel from Boots. It cleared my 13 year olds acne in a matter of weeks. Can't recommend it enough.
