AIBU to allow DD to go to rainbows and beavers?

I’m not sure if it’s even allowed. She desperately wants to try rainbows with her friends, but also wants to go to beavers with her brother. I think she’ll love them both. Does she’s have to pick one? Or is she allowed to do them both?
She will automatically get a place a beavers as a sibling, and the waiting list as rainbows is quite short at the moment.

Can't see any issue, they are 2 separate organisations

tadjennyp · 09/12/2019 13:30

My daughter does both scouts and guides. There are no problems.

BringOnTheScience · 09/12/2019 13:31

Perfectly allowable ... but there will undoubtedly be clashes of events when she'll have to choose, eg Remembrance Sunday.

She'll have an epic camp blanket with 2 sets of badges!

GrumpyHoonMain · 09/12/2019 13:31

Depends on what your local organisations rules re: waiting lists are. In our area it’s not allowed you can only apply for one group at a time

merryhouse · 09/12/2019 13:36

I don't imagine they'd even notice. They're not normally run by the same people.

How old is she? - don't beavers start a year later than rainbows?

Thingsthatgo · 09/12/2019 14:52

Thanks for all your thoughts. She is nearly 6, so able to start both. There will be some church parade clashes, you’re right BringOnTheScience. I think I’ll just be honest, and ask.

Why not? My daughter did both, hadn't considered Beavers until we found Rainbows had a waiting list and someone suggested it.
She stopped guides at around age 11 but kept up scouting and has been going twice a week since around 13-14 doing Explorers and has helped at meetings for the younger groups as a young leader for a few years.

This is like asking if it's ok to do swimming lessons and gymnastics. Or piano and violin lessons. They just aren't the same organisation, even if there are similarities.

They're separate organisations. Guides can't police your membership of scouts, or vice versa.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 09/12/2019 15:16

As others have said, they’re completely separate organisations. You can absolutely do both.

uhhuhyeahok · 09/12/2019 15:35

Girlguiding leader here. She can absolutely do both. PP mentioned clashes, which is definitely a possibility for parades and things like that, but she should still be able to do loads of activities and will have an epic time at both.

lpchill · 09/12/2019 15:51

Cub leader here. No issues doing both but there will be clashes for events, camps etc. Best of getting signed up for both as one or both may have a waiting list. Worst case you start one now and join the other when there is space. She will probably love both! At least it's cheaper than karate

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/12/2019 16:09

Different organisations. It's worth trying both to see if she likes one, both or neither.
Eldest DD did a year of Rainbows then moved to Beavers- she much preferred Beavers.
Younger DD did just Beavers, but did ask to try Rainbows. Unfortunately at the time there was no local group. Now shesa firm Beaver (and by my experience would find Rainbows and Brownies a bit tame as she adores the camping, fire and outdoor stuff- although other guiding groups are more outdoor based than the one her sister went to)

HellsBills · 09/12/2019 16:11

My daughter did both and moved up to do both cubs and Brownies. In our particular area the two groups offer very different things. Both groups gave her positive experiences that the other didn't so I thoroughly recommend it.
