What happens to tax credits when you’re partner moves out

Hello
My husband is moving out next month. Currently I’m a stay at home mum though I am job hunting. We receive tax credits but what will happen to these when I tell HMRC he’s moved out

Are you separating?
Rather than him moving away for work.

Hopefully someone will be along who knows for sure but it might trigger a change in circumstances.

How many children do you have and when were they born?

You will probably have to claim universal credit.

snowybaubles · 09/12/2019 11:36

Sorry. You have to make a new claim as a single person and it will probably be UC, dependant on your circumstances.

Follow the link down page about making a new claim of your relationship ends. It takes you to the criteria for TC

Yes that's right. Unless you receive other benefits that include a severe disability premium then your tax credits will stop when your partner moves out and you won't be able to reclaim them.

If this means you can't manage financially your only option will be to claim UC.

I would check how this will affect you financially by completing a benefit calculation online. Look at a Turn to us or entitled to.
