Saw a mouse run under the stairs this morning. Now I've seen this. Is it a rat?

Looks like neither rat or mouse

Looks like a piece of fluff to me - rat and mouse droppings look like grains of rice, but brown/black.

bonzo77 · 09/12/2019 07:46

Neither. Rat droppings are bullet shaped and about 1.5cm long (we have pet ones so I know). Mice ones are size of a grain of rice. And there are rarely only one with either.

Oh and the appear in corners and along walls

OK saw two black grain droppings behind the sofa with a chocolate Christmas decoration. I'm near a field so one may have got in. No droppings under the fridge or dishwasher.

Mice love chocolate so perhaps. We live in the country and definitely get mice in the loft. You need to go round your hose looking for holes, they can get in really tiny holes the thickness of a pencil. We put wire wool around pipes in the kitchen and covered air vents with mesh grills.
Peppermint oil on cotton wool will act as a deterrent but you have to renew it regularly.

Use tissue to pick it up and squash it.

@Frenchw1fe I found the hole and saw one pop it's head out. Both got a fright so filled it up sharpish.
