Just as the title states really!

My dog will be having a new collar and lead. I know the ddog won't care but the children will be delighted that santa has left a present for their very loved pet.

Runssometimes · 09/12/2019 07:19

Nope, we do it every year. He has his own stocking too. And last year when the presents were being opened he went abd got his present from under the tree and opened it. So funny. It had been there untouched apart from the odd sniff for a week and he seemed to pick up that the free for all had begun and so he joined it.

Presents always wrapped for dogs sometimes not for cats.
We had a brief flurry of cards being sent to the cats from us and from them to us (they had good handwriting - a little bit like my do’s handwriting I always thought - interesting, perhaps evidence of nurture argument).
Very brief flurry of our cats sending (and receiving) neighbours across the road cats (used to have staring through front windows relationship). Think neighbour/friend and we all realised we may have tipped a little too far with that one but it was fun while it lasted.

Oh run that made me laugh. What a good boy.

lifeisgoodagain · 09/12/2019 07:31

Of course the dog needs presents! We always sit around in a circle and open gifts after lunch (kids are grown) and the dog sits in the circle waiting patiently for his gifts, everyone buys for him!

LittleCandle · 09/12/2019 07:32

Our DDogs (and DCats when still alive) get presents from the neighbours! Of course YANBU!!!

CaptainMyCaptain · 09/12/2019 07:38

I am also wrapping presents from my dog to her doggy friends. I've made them Christmas bandanas.

SofaCushion · 09/12/2019 07:42

Nice to buy the gifts. Maybe her old newspaper to wrap. Using actual Christmas wrapping paper would be so wasteful

altiara · 09/12/2019 07:44

My dog doesn’t understand unwrapping but he understands presents. One year he opened his present early with the kids and then when he saw everyone opening presents later, he ran off, came back with his stuffed toy and ‘opened it up’ and took the stuffing out. Thought he was clever until I had to pick up all the mess.

Of course pets get wrapped presents, they are part of the family. My DS includes our dog on his letter to Father Christmas, saying he would like a new bone. So there will be a present from FC for our dog in DS’ stocking, and then also a present from us under the tree.

Our dog loves ripping presents open which is why they never go under the tree until Christmas Eve, even before we had DS

Dcats always get a new collar each for Xmas
A toy - hoping moving articulated worm will be a hit this year
They also get treats and a special dinner

Zenithbear · 09/12/2019 09:40

Yes I always wrap little dog treats up for mine otherwise they would feel left out.

percheron67 · 09/12/2019 09:44

No. I wouldn't leave a pet out. My goldfish is getting a new rock for his tank!.

Theonewiththecat · 09/12/2019 09:45

Christmas when I was younger involved taking it in turns with my brother and the dog to open presents 😂😂
So yeah even now I wrap my mums and MILs dogs presents up. We have a cat and to be honest he probably couldn't give a shiny shit about how his dreamies are presented, but they will be wrapped and have a tag on so he knows they are his.

Stoople · 09/12/2019 09:47

@percheron67 I love that :D this thread is so sweet.

Sp1ke3 · 09/12/2019 09:48

I can honestly say that our dog opening her presents is the highlight of Christmas. We video it every year, including our shouts of encouragement. It’s always much more fun than the kids!

Megan2018 · 09/12/2019 10:01

I take great care wrapping the cats, they particularly like curling ribbon and open their own with a little help.
My DD will only be 15 weeks so tbh the animals will be far more interested than her Grin

GoGoLego · 09/12/2019 10:15

My dog is doing a secret Santa this year

Then he'll get a toy and few bits he needs.

Simply wrapped so that he can open himself with some encouragement

cushioncovers · 09/12/2019 10:17

My cat gets a pressy every year. He's always unimpressed with it but it makes me feel better 😂

LolaSmiles · 09/12/2019 10:19

Totally fine.
But it's a bit of a waste to wrap them.

Our dogs are getting a present each.

ChristmasSpirtsOnTheRocksPleas · 09/12/2019 10:23

As long as you are a considerate gift picker I’m sure your dog enjoys getting a gift.

Stoople · 09/12/2019 10:45

@cushioncovers when are cats ever impressed?

KarmaStar · 09/12/2019 11:47

Yanbu!🐱my dogs say so!🐕🐶🐈🐱🐩and the cats...
Of course they want presents.and a stocking.I've learnt not to put them on the fireplace though as they can't wait until the morning to open them.
I was wondering if they count them, the dogs that is,as their eyes follow the gifts to make sure they all have the same amount.🎁🎁🎁

AG29 · 09/12/2019 11:54

I always buy for our dog. OH thinks I’m mad 🤣

MissE6791 · 09/12/2019 12:02

Our dog gets gifts in his stocking every year from us and various others. They are always wrapped and he loves opening them! I use recycled and recyclable paper and paper tape. He’s part of the family, I would never leave him out.
