Postnatal Hairloss?

Sorry not an AIBU but posted a few days ago in health and no responses at all and I’m becoming desperate.

Does anyone have any miracles that can help with pretty bad hair loss after birth?

It’s coming out in huge clumps every day and really starting to get me down.

The hair that I do have left is knotted really badly when I wake up every morning too.

I had sepsis after my c section (4 months PP) and doctor has said you can experience hair loss after a serious illness like this too so not sure if I’m getting double whammy of hair falling out.

I’ve also been stressed due to hospital negligence causing life changing brain injuries for DC, so that’s probably not helping either.

Any suggestions would be massively appreciated otherwise I’m hiding under the table for our big family Christmas dinner 😔

I’ve just spotted today that it’s actually quite noticeable if I wear my hair up too.

I’m 4 months PP and my hair is also falling out in great amounts, everywhere.

I hope you are ok? Can you see your GP?

Sadly no advice, other than to say sorry you’ve had an awful time. I felt the same about the hair loss, at 4mpp I lost LOADS and got actual bald spots about the size of a 5-10p. Thought that was it, alopecia. Had to change my parting and tried not to tie hair up too much (tempting as it was) to avoid pulling on hair. Now 7mpp and it’s growing back, lovely tufts! So hopefully yours will be fairly short lived too!

Also, try reading Mindful Mamma, it helped me. We had a pretty tough start and it’s helped me get some acceptance over what’s happened and the challenges to come. I’m not saying it will help your hair grow back but I definitely feel less stressed!

Possibly PP hyperthyroidism..

Go to the GP for a test in the meantime cover your hair with a silk scarf or use a silk pillowcase at night, it will stop the friction and knotting.

Presumably there is no eczema or psoriasis on the scalp as this can cause hair loss (flaky/raised scaly patches, redness)?

Keep the iron up even if levels are normal. I’m 18 months pp (with number 3) and I’m still recovering from the hair loss, I had another bout when I stopped breast feeding that has just settled down. It can be really noticeable, but it should grow back. I felt really fed up about after my second child was born 16 months after I had my first; my hair hadn’t even recovered from the first time and I looked awful. It did though, it’s just we’re talking years rather than months. But agree with finding a good hairdresser who understands that this happens.

4 months PP here too and my hairline is majorly struggling and I'm clogging up drains almost every day. Bought a thick hairband / earwarmer today to try and fill the gap. 😭
